What terrible career advancement that he is still flying fighter jets at 55.

I'm gonna guess that he's teaching at Top Gun, but I don't think there's any synopsis out.

At 55, he should have either retired or become an admiral. More likely, he has an estranged son at Top Gun who he will try to mentor, fail to reach him because he's a chip off the old arrogant block, but then his son will realize that Maverick does know stuff.

I saw Beast yesterday. It was a good movie that probably could've been an hour thirty and been just fine, but it was one of those indie "Let's linger on this scene for way too long for dramatic effect" movies so instead, it was an hour fifty. Interesting story, good performances, but suuuuuuupeeeerrrr sloooooooowwwww.

Lots of trailers today. A new Wreck It Ralph 2 trailer...the first Lego Movie 2 trailer, and this one for a movie I had no idea Peter Jackson was making...

EDIT: Peter Jackson produced, not directed.

won't you be my neighbor was outstanding, as expected. a quick 93 minutes since the subject matter sucks you in. not only did the documentary talk about fred rogers himself, they also intertwined some of the stories of the people behind the scenes.

after it ended, there was a Q and A with the director of the film (morgan neville) and two of the producers (caryn capotosto and nicholas ma, who is yo-yo ma's son). they spoke of how quickly they were able to obtain financing for the film ($2M in two days after presenting their idea at sundance a few years back), the time it took from funding to completion (a little under 2 years), the length of the original cut (5 hours!!!) and the large amount of archival material at the fred rogers center to sort through. so much, in fact, that they found handfuls of undeveloped film canisters while doing research at the center.

one major character from the show, although shown in archival footage, was not interviewed in the present day for the documentary:

Spoiler: show
betty aberlin, aka lady aberlin. one of the questions for neville was centered around aberlin: is she still alive? if so, why wasn't she a part of the documentary? neville states they approached her multiple times but she declined to be on camera. people thought this as odd since just about all living cast members of the show were interviewed but not her. it seems that she has positive things to say about fred rogers and her time on the show but is not happy with the way that the fred rogers center is carrying on his legacy, specifically with the daniel tiger's neighborhood cartoon.

Betty Aberlin rules, and she's right about DTN.

Dude, I took two minutes to look up what another poster JUST posted about a movie/show I'm interested in.

Though I am loving this whole pointless, "get a load of this guy bothering to find out about horsefeathers," kick you're on lately.

And this is more than once where using acronyms has apparently made me a dick, I guess. I mean, it's fun getting to totally re-live that special kind of, "HA-HA! That dude sucks for doing anything!" type of no-win bullying that we all got to endure as kids. Good for you!
