Surprised you have such morals when it comes to filmmakers or artists. I mean, so what if they are pieces of crap in their personal lives? Hell, I assume that most people in Hollywood are awful people. It doesn't make me enjoy their movies any less. John Lennon was a complete piece of garbage who beat women and abandoned his family, but I still love his music. I think Tarantino is very likely a major [expletive] and is a creepy lech toward his female leads, but I love his movies. Roman Polanski raped a child (which is quite a bit worse than being a drunk racist IMO) and has, in your words, made zero effort to fess up to what a horsefeathers person he is, yet I watch and love The Pianist and Chinatown. Would you have the same criteria you are applying to Gibson if Polanski came out with a new critically acclaimed film?

Maybe you would, but personally it doesn't bother me if artists are major douchebags.

I find it weird that people make the effort to separate the art from the artist in an age when information about the artist is so readily available. I find it very easy to avoid anything related to roman polanski and woody allen in particular, who are known child rapists. And I haven't had interest in a Gibson movie since I've been out of college. These are known horsefeathers people and they don't make anything close to amazing enough to put aside how bad they are.

Gibson can make all the movies he wants; I'm just incredulous at how warmly he's been welcomed back top to bottom like nothing's changed, or, even worse, like he's atoned or even that he was somehow wronged. Like, don't pretend like this movie wasn't made by a horsefeathers head, and stop acting like he's made something great with an above average war movie that's little more than him explicitly flicking his bean in regards to his religious and violent obsessions. So, yeah, I'm not going to waste my time watching a Gibson flick because it suffers the dual sins of being the same horsefeathers he's already foisted on us AND it was made by an unrepentant asshat.

The others, whatever; you do you. I think Polanski is a criminal scumbag and it's appalling how much he's coddled as some kind of victim by way too many actors and other filmmakers, but I love a couple of his movies (ditto for Woody Allen, though it's more than a couple). So what? If Gibson miraculously made something as great as Chinatown or The Pianist I'd watch it, but he hasn't and he never will, so horsefeathers him.

Sure it does. It just doesn't make me boycott their movies. Lennon was a wife-beater. That's awful, but I'm not going to stop listening to The Beatles. Child rape is obviously as heinous as it gets, but I love the piss out of Chinatown.

This I agree with. It's strange. It's like they had some arbitrary "let's blacklist Mel" timeframe that expired.

You're conflating things here; who cares if you listen to the Beatles? You're not paying to listen to the Beatles every time you do. You're not paying to watch Chinatown; all of these things were great works of pop culture that came out before you were born. Hacksaw Ridge was a new movie released last year that you, presumably, made the decision to go and pay to watch despite knowing for a decade that Gibson is raging, anti-Semitic, racist maniac who threatened his wife with rape and murder. Sure, you could make the symbolic gesture of just not listening to the Beatles or not watching a movie that came out decades ago, but that's different than, "yes, I want to support working filmmaker Mel Gibson." Plus, like, who gives a horsefeathers if they ever see Hacksaw Ridge? There's so many other things to watch these days.

I like that the criticism of Tarantino was "well, MAYBE he's a creeper because he likes feet or something, I dunno," instead of just going with the obvious, "HE CAN'T STOP PEPPERING HIS SCRIPTS WITH THE N-BOMB" (and keeps casting himself as characters that get to say it). I mean, it's this weird blind spot for a dude who has been pretty vocal in his support of things like BLM, and yet actually had the balls to say black critics are treating HIM unfairly because of the color of his skin when he's been criticized for being in love with that slur.

No doubt Quentin is giving George unsolicited advice on how to shoehorn the N-word into the next book.

Dunkirk in IMAX 70mm was absolutely incredible. Easily my favorite movie of the year. Loved how the film relied on sound editing and its score to propel the movie forward. Hans Zimmer's score was off the charts.

Yeah, I don't know if it will be my favorite movie of the year, but it was the best viewing experience so far

Yeah, I mean...it holds up as well as it ever did. Hilarious parts are hilarious...slower parts are slower. But still extremely watchable, imo.

the first time I saw it was a good 7+ years after it came out and I enjoyed it bigly then as well as the next time I saw it.

Like ST more, but damned if this didn't make laugh harder than almost anything the first time I saw it:

https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/febe0d63-c ... 64f2f5d028

And I think Club Dread is kinda underrated, but what the horsefeathers was up with that waiter movie? I saw part of it one night on Comedy Central at, like, 3 AM, and it had all the makings of a cheapie, made for HBO non-porno.
