Finally got around to seeing Get Out this weekend. I'm stealing this sentiment from reading up afterwards, but it has some of the fewest throwaway/filler scenes of any movie I've seen. Everything had a very relevant and specific purpose, so well done.

I just saw it recently, and I completely agree. I also really appreciated that it didn't fall into the new trope of making fun of horror movie tropes, when it so easily could have.

It's a pretty incredible debut for a filmmaker. Like, not even in a, "oh, that's pretty good for comedy guy" way, or, "not bad for a horror flick!" Dude just knocks it out of the park from top to bottom.

I'm fully prepared to be mocked for this take...especially if turns out to be a turd...but I'm starting to get cautiously optimistic for Justice League.

1) There's been a lot of acknowledgement from those involved that the films previous to Wonder Woman were a mistake. Ben and Gal both did interviews expressing that, and now Henry Cavill...

Even if Marvel didn’t exist, we’d struggle. There was a style they [DC] were going for, an attempt to be different and look at things from a slightly different perspective, which hasn’t necessarily worked. Yes, it has made money but it has not been a critical success; it hasn’t given everyone that sensation which superheroes should give the viewer.

I feel like now the right mistakes have been made and they haven’t been pandered [to], and we can start telling the stories in the way they need to be told. It is even better to come back from a mistake or stylistic error into the correct vein because it will make it seem that much stronger. Wonder Woman was the first step in the right direction.

2) The running time is 1h 59m. Which tells me that for all of the niceties said about Zach Snyder by everyone involved, this has Whedon's fingerprints all over it, and hopefully we'll be getting a streamlined story.

3) And possibly most important...Danny Elfman is scoring it!

Danny Elfman wrote:“You will hear Batman’s theme for Batman… Batman has only had one theme.”

The tone/look of the movie from the trailer is all over the horsefeathers' place:

This is like a 'Snakes on a Plane', how dumb can we make a movie that people will see it just to see how dumb it is, as far as I can tell.

Also a poster to bring in the Hallmark movie crowd who don't know any better.

It's worse than that. Whatever cutesy ABC Family vibe it's going for it's actually trying to be serious about it. Ron Perlman produced this, too. This is definitely a "Ron Perlman is my friend and he's helping me make my movie by taking advantage of tax credits" situation. There's no other reason for them to put Dan Meyer and Seth Henrikson at the end of that trailer as if we should know who those horsefeathering people are or if we should care about who wrote or directed it. It's pure ego stroking, cash grabbing, garbage.

Well that sure would be interesting...

Bloomberg says talks happened but have stalled....so I guess we'll see.

X-men and Fantastic Four in the MCU? Original Star Wars versions on blu ray? Lots of possibilities here.

At some point Disney is just going to own almost everything pop culture-related. I fully expect them to end up owning the Bond franchise sooner rather than later, too.

Seriously, though; at what point does some kind of antitrust regulations start stepping in? This is seems insane.

AND: Netflix might be getting kinda nervous right now, too. That Disney VOD service is going to be a MONSTER.

ONE MORE THING: this would be even more horsefeathering money in the Murdoch's pockets, and allow them to just focus even more on news and sports, which suuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks.

THIS IS VERY BAD.

WAIT WAIT WAIT: there's basically zero chance Disney would let Fox continue on it's current slate of about 25-30 movies a year. They'll probably boil it all down like Pixar and Marvel and Star Wars and put out only 2-3 pictures a year under the Fox banner. They killed Miramax and Touchstone before, so I wouldn't be hopeful at all for something like, say, Searchlight to survive this.

NOT GOOD AT ALL.

Crisis averted for now:

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles ... -cnbc-says

Walt Disney Co. held talks to buy 21st Century Fox Inc.’s movie studio and other assets, a person familiar with the matter said, a deal that would have given the entertainment giant control of another studio and TV networks across the world.

The two sides aren’t talking anymore, said the person, who asked not to be identified discussing private information. Fox shares surged as much as 8.9 percent, and Disney rose as much as 2.4 percent after CNBC first reported on the discussions. Both companies declined to comment.

I am johnny behind the times when it comes to movies. I barely watch any in the year they come out.

But I just flew out west and saw Baby Driver and The Big Sick

The beginning of baby driver was really lame, the meat of the movie worked more than I expected. The end was dumb. What was the point of the Debora and Darling characters? One just dry humped Jon Hamm for half the movie and warned us how intense he will get when threatened, the other fell in love with a mute kid for no good reason, then stuck with him while he was in prison for ~5 years? WTF

Also, the "you know I never use the same exact crew every single time" gimmick did not work. You use the same driver for years, then mix and match a couple others every time? And you use a married couple? What the heck is going on here Doc?
