http://bloody-disgusting.com/movie/3499 ... -universe/

"After 2021, we’re thinking of a potential strategy that [releases] Godzilla movies uninterrupted at a rate of every 2 years, although there is a preference for a yearly pace as well,” Toho’s Keiji Ota told Nikkei Style this week. “The future of the series and its forwarding developments are very conscious of the method of “shared universe”. Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah, etc. could all share a single world view much like a Marvel movie where Iron Man and the Hulk can crossover with each other.”

That’s the good news here. The bad news? If you loved Shin Godzilla, you’ll probably be bummed to hear that Shin Godzilla 2 will apparently *not* be happening.

Ota explained, “Shin Godzilla was a huge hit, but instead of thinking of doing the obvious idea of making a Shin Godzilla 2, instead think about a world that can be used for a long time. I’d rather make a World of Godzilla.”

A new gritty and dark Godzilla cinematic universe built around Shin Godzilla? horsefeathers yes, please

I have no idea what the hell a Shin Godzilla is, but the part you quoted seems to be saying that what you're excited about isn't happening.

Jake Gyllenhaal cast as Mysterio for the next Spider-man movie. And Michael Keaton will be back.

They might as well get the whole Sinister Six.

Certainly seems they're building toward that, at least.

Man, I like a good pulp-y cop/journalism procedural flick, but why did it have to be horsefeathers' Depp?

Mysterio? Seriously? He's like the lamest Spider-man villain. I don't know how you can translate that character from the comic books to the MCU. Someone gave Jake some bad advice...

I'm happy Keaton is coming back. He was excellent as the Vulture.

I do like the irony of bemoaning a lame comic book villain in one line, and the praising someone for doing a good job playing an even lamer comic book villain in the next line.

Pretty sure you don't have to worry about the movie just being some dude in a green onesie with a fishbowl on his head.

I will admit I was worried about how they would translate Vulture for the MCU and they did a great job. I was going to make a joke about the fishbowl for a head for Mysterio. I never thought Vulture was more lame than Mysterio. I bet there are some super lame villains in the rogues gallery going way back.

Pic of Mysterio for people who don't know who he is:

Just so we're on the same page, we're talking about this guy:

Lol, I didn't read the old comic books. Before my time and I'm pretty sure every villain looked lame from that era. I'm talking more about the animated cartoon show on Fox from the 90's that I watched as a kid. That's when I first became introduced to Spider-Man. Mysterio was super lame on the cartoon show, and always seemed like magician trying to pretend to be a villain.

Fair enough. Touché, but...

I still think Mysterio is the lamest Spider-Man villain.

Oh, he's super lame; Spider-Man's whole rogue's gallery is pretty hilarious. And inexplicably mostly wearing green.

Jake Gyllenhaal has been trying to land the role of Batman for years. He's auditioned for it and is rumored to be the successor to Ben Affleck in the next solo Batman films.

At least they're using different villains for Spidey than we've seen on screen before. I mean, DC keeps redoing Joker and Lex...

I'd rather have Mysterio than another version of the Green Goblin.

We haven't seen the Scorpion (I know he makes an appearance in Spider-Man: Homecoming) properly. We haven't seen a good version of Venom. We need a good version of Venom before they can introduce Carnage. I know that isn't happening now -- Venom is a separate spin-off.

I wouldn't mind an updated Marvel version of Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus. The old Spider-Man trilogy has not aged well and those versions seem really silly now.

Norman Osburn always struck me as an evil psychopathic version of Tony Stark. I'd definitely watch a Spider-Man movie with Iron Man and Spider-Man teaming up to fight Green Goblin (plus another villain most likely).
