I understand that opinion. It's wrong, but I understand it.

Damn, Chow Yun-Fat is even cooler than ever:

https://www.indiewire.com/2018/10/chow- ... jBncVCVfkI

Chinese movie legend Chow Yun-fat says he plans to give his entire net worth, a whopping $5.6 billion HKD (that’s $714 million USD) to charity. “My dream is to be a happy and normal person,” Yun-fat recently told Hong Kong movie site Jayne Stars. “The hardest thing in life is not about how much money you earn, but how to keep a peaceful mindset and live the rest of your life in a simple and carefree manner.”

And, going back a few years:

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/ ... ace-744679

A few weeks ago, Chow Yun-fat bravely became the first notable Hong Kong celebrity to back the pro-democracy protests raging in the city, but now his support could jeopardize his film career in the lucrative Chinese market.

As the protests move into a second month, there has been a growing campaign in the Chinese media echoed loudly and spread on social media sites like Weibo for protest-supporting celebrities to be boycotted or even banned from working in China and in the case of actors and directors, their films to be pulled from distribution.

Chow (Bulletproof Monk; Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), who is extremely well-liked in Hong Kong for his philanthropy and humble nature, took the threats to his career and future earnings in his stride, responding to the rumored ban in China with a simple: "I'll just make less then."

I just watched The Life of Brian on Netflix. That movie holds up remarkably well.

Good to hear as that was my reaction watching the original the first dozen times. I’ve been waiting for this one a long time, a remake was announced over a decade ago

And the director of that remake announced a decade ago just did a sequel to Halloween. A.V. Club has an article on their site comparing and contrasting the Suspiria remake and the Halloween sequel; its a great read.

More confidence building news:

As for Amazon Studios’ remake of Dario Argento’s Suspiria, it scored an insane $89,003 per screen average in just two theaters in New York and Los Angeles. It goes wider next weekend, which could prove interesting. As ERC Box Office notes, this is bigger than The Shape of Water‘s per and one of the biggest limited openings in years.

Yep, Suspiria was the good stuff, even featured a legitimately well placed jump scare to open the climax

Bohemian Rhapsody was a bit of a disappointment to me.

Finally watched Baby Driver. After seeing it knocked down a bit on here, my expectations were somewhat low. I enjoyed it quite a bit, though. I wonder if it helped that I wasn't going in thinking it would be awesome.

I will never understand going into a movie essentially expecting it to be bad or disappointing. It's not like it sucks less or you didn't somehow waste your time if it turns out to be bad. Go in with your head and your hopes held high, dammit.

Perhaps I wasn't clear. When it was released, I was expecting amazing based on it being Edgar Wright. After I heard people saying they were disappointed, I knocked my expectations down, but I still expected it to be at least decent.
