I made it until a couple months ago after the Avatar ride got the kids all enthusiastic about it.

I'd like to see the internet war nerds break down the weirdness of those battle scenes.

Everything about this just screams Queens Boulevard 2, but this time directed by Vince himself.

Anyone had a chance yet to watch the new Hateful Eight recut that is on Netflix? Doing the math it looks to be like 30-35 minutes longer than the theatrical cut. I'm intrigued.

Boy, if there's anything that tremendously unpleasant movie needed, it's to be even horsefeathering LONGER.

That movie has been on my DVR for like 2 years and I haven't ever gotten around to watching it.

Opinions on Joe Fixit/Sorta Smart Grey Hulk?

Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if you might just not like pretty much everything Peter David did with the character.

What's the name of the omnibus. I've been trying to track down good collections.

Don't remember loving Joe Fixit, tbh. It's been a long time. I did like the Future Imperfect stuff by David. Was Hulk: The End by him? Loved that.

Yeah, he did, and I want to say that was the last Hulk thing he wrote, too.

Marvel has made their omnibus collections kind of confusing; they used to be called the Marvel Visionaries collections, but now they're known as the Epic Collection. So it's his entire run in order, but they changed the name halfway through (scroll down to the collected editions section):

(the first volume is on the previous page)

i only now realize that gary frank did the artwork during the peter david-era hulk and that is some of the best artwork i saw as a kid. it was such a stark contrast to what i was looking at in x-men/uncanny x-men at the time (jim lee, andy kubert, john romita jr. [whose x-men looked like they were chiseled out of legos]).

The "Trump cheats a kid at golf" story making the rounds lead me to stumble on this:

Looking back, I actually think Trump supporters can draw inspiration from movies like Happy Gilmore.

The typical plot of an old-school Adam Sandler movie is: oafish Everyman decides he needs compete in a world he is totally unfamiliar with [golf/school/football, etc]. The powers that be [PGA tour/CEO father, etc.] bend or break every rule, and make every accommodation, to allow Everyman to compete. This angers the Villain, who is villainous because he has worked his entire life within the system that Everyman is now disrupting. Villain begrudgingly competes with Everyman, despite Everyman’s blatant rule breaking and unprofessionalism. This leads to builds to a climax where suddenly the roles flip: Everyman agrees to play by the rules and starts to win, causing Villain to break the rules and cement his villainous behavior. We cheer Everyman for winning fair and square, and laugh as Villain is mocked and beaten (literally) for doing once what Everyman did the whole movie. If that isn’t Trumpism in a nutshell, I don’t know what is.

Look at poor Shooter McGavin. What did he actually do? For most of the movie he just played golf like a douchebag, which is to say, like a golfer. He rightfully objects when Happy starts fights, swears on TV, and incites fans to distract golfers. He does 2 villainous things: he buys Happy’s grandmother’s house because Happy never bothered to learn how tax auctions work despite that being the whole point of the movie, and he pays a dude to distract Happy, which is what Happy’s own fans had been doing to him the whole movie. That’s literally it. Oh, right. He also steals a jacket at the very end. And for that, he’s literally beaten by a mob.

Did I completely miss something in my viewing of Endgame and the Far From Home trailer, but how is Peter Parker and company still in high school with the 5 year jump?

Spoilering just in case:
Spoiler: show
My interpretation is that presumably Peter and his classmates had all been dusted by the first snap, so when they were undusted, they all were right back where they left off in HS.

My son convinced my other son that we should binge all of the marvel movies this summer. We watched Iron Man yesterday. Which movies do we have to watch in order to understand what's going on in the last one? Which one's should we skip?

Do you want to only watch ones you "need" to have seen to go into the last 2 movies (not that I'm necessarily talking about the 4 movie bare minimum I suggested to jersey)?

Rough in terms of order, or rough in terms of bad movies?

The latter; I actually don't think many of the movies are out and out and bad, but it seems like most of the ones that are at least relatively duds are almost all in the first half.

I guess I had just never actually seen a break down of the order they technically go in, too. It's weird nothing else goes between the two GotG movies.

I have no idea what the order is based on (aside from the individual hero's timelines)

It looks like it's supposed to be chronological in terms of the the MCU timeline.

My 9 yr old nephew told me last week that he wants to come to my place and stay for the weekend to do a Marvel marathon right before he goes back to school on August 21st iirc. I told him that I would take that Friday/Monday off before school starts and do a 4 day weekend so we can spread them out. I just hope Endgame will be available by then.

This is basically what I got planned atm.

Spoiler: show
Friday:
CA: First Avenger
Captain Marvel (if Far From Home isn't in theaters around here, I'll put this with IW/Endgame)
Iron Man
Thor
The Avengers

Saturday:
CA: Winter Soldier
Guardians of the Galaxy
Doctor Strange
Avengers: Age of Ultron

Sunday:
CA: Civil War
Black Panther
Spider-Man: Homecoming
Thor: Ragnarok

Monday:
Infinity War
Endgame
(Hopefully Spiderman: Far From Home will be showing in theaters around here still so I can surprise him)

going chronologically for first time viewing has never made any sense to me for anything. watch them the way that the story is told, which is by release.
