I fully support pet rescue and am thrilled when other people go that route, but we had a really bad experience with a rescue dog and have been gun shy since then. Some people get a little self righteous when they hear that we got our dog from a pet store, but it's what works for us

*shrug* we had a really tough time with our rescue dog, to the point that we had to bring him back to the rescue after 18 months.

what was he/she doing that you couldn't handle after a year and a half? i'm honestly just curious and not really giving you too hard of a time.

It became pretty clear that he was abused as a puppy, as he showed extremely aggressive behavior towards a very specific type of person. We did obedience training with him and got him fairly well under control with just the two of us, but he lost it when ANYONE visited.

The last straw was when my wife got pregnant and about two months before she was due, the dog lost his crap and backed her into a corner, haunches raised, teeth bared, etc. It scared the crap out of her and we couldnt risk that behavior with a newborn on the way

Yeah, even with that type of episode it was still heartbreaking to lose him.

Our family's dog seems to have a similar lack of gameplan when running with us; "RUNRUNRUNRUNRUN, OK, I WANT TO BE NEAR YOU, OH NO YOU FELL, RUNRUNRUNRUN." She loves running alongside you, but inevitably she will jump or cut in front of you because of...reasons? And then she seems annoyed you're not running anymore because you're a crumpled heap on the ground.

Agreed. but Mojo acting as the voice inside a dog's mind was amazing.

This puppy sure hates fireworks. Good thing that fourteen different neighbors are lighting M-80's every 30 seconds

This dumb puppy can climb fences. We have a metal "doggy enclosure" that we used for our old dog when we left the house (about 2 feet high, no roof). This puppy can climb up and over it like it's nothing. We then put a piece of plywood on the top, but she figured out how to push the wall of the pen out from the wood to squeeze out. So annoying

My dog likes to eat her own poop. Any training tips for getting her to stop? We can mostly avoid it if we have her on a leash, but if she's in her crate at home, God knows what she's doing

Isn't the bigger issue of her eating poop in her crate that she's pooping in her crate?
