My dog is 8 years old and multiple times each summer, we've brought her to my parents house. They have a pool and their dog loved to swim - like, if I stood 30 feet away from the pool with her seated next to me and threw a frisbee in, she would sprint over and fly jump halfway across the pool. My dog never got in on her own. We'd put her in and throw a ball. She'd go after it, turn to come back and then panic and swim directly for the nearest edge. Never figured out where the stairs were even if we were standing there calling her.

This summer, my parents got a new puppy (their dog lasses away last summer). We took our dog home in July and she pretty much did the same thing she always does in the pool. The next day, the two dogs are playing in the yard and my dog goes to the pool to get a drink. She puts her front paws in and starts drinking. Then the back paws go in also. All of a sudden, she pushes off the steps and swims in a nice loop. She's completely calm, no panic and comes back to the steps without me calling her. We took her back a couple months later and she did the same thing. She also had no problem fetching the ball in the pool and swimming back to the steps.

It was so weird that after 8 summers of never going into the pool on her own and not knowing what to do when we put her into he pool (even though she watched my parents dog swim in the pool) that all of a sudden she would willingly to in and be so calm while she was in there.

I showed you guys one of the other tricks me and my dog have been working on. He's finally starting to master this one and its making me proud. Hes been able to do it on leash pretty much forever, had to wait 1.5 years for him to mature enough to do it off leash, i guess. Still gotta work a little on getting full stops between the steps tho.

Also i realize im dumb for not turning my camera to the side. I never think about that til afterward :/

Man, hockey would be a legit sport if they made dogs an official part of it.

Enjoy my dog going for a swim (hope this video works, I've never posted one before). My parents's golden retriever makes an appearance also.

The puppy is in a very bad habit of seeking negative attention right now. It's common for dogs who are kenneled/caged all day, and it's hard to deal with. She will bark, bite, and generally act like an a-hole if it gets her attention. The recommendation is to ignore them when they do this, but when the negative behavior involved trying to tear apart your furniture, it's impossible to just walk away.

Oh, and she’s also doing this thing where she cries at the back door like she wants to go out, but then refuses to go when you open the door. If you put her outside, she just cries to come back in, and then immediately cries to go out again

Admittedly I’ve been lazy about walking her when the weather got cold. I need to suck it up and get on that

Yep. It's a puppy. Tons of energy while they're young. Plus it's a habit thing if you been taking her out at certain time of the day/night. My dog as a puppy needed to take long walks (~10 mins) 3 times a day until he was 1 1/2-2 years old. Now? I have to drag him out just so he gets some exercise.

Recommendation by who? I've never heard this from any of my vet friends. If anything, it gets worse because you're not addressing it right away and giving the puppy attention/discipline that it needs.

EDIT: Forgot your puppy is Boston Terrier mix. Like I said before on here, they're known to chew anything. You got to be pretty consistent on discipline whenever they're chewing on something they shouldn't be. Put her back in the crate for like 10 minutes every time she does it and ignore her while she's in the crate. She'll learn that it's bad to chew/bite. If you decide to not do that one time, then she think its ok to do that.
