Dogs Are Awesome, Yay Dogs!

Postby minnesotacubsfan » Mon Nov 19, 2018 2:59 pm

Our 7 mo old puppy (23 lbs) was attacked unprovoked by a 80 lb german shepard at the park yesterday. Crushed his right rear ankle and growth plates. He may need surgery. I wasn’t there, he was with my wife and daughter.

If this GS has attacked a person (it has) and now our dog, will animal control put it down? It took me 4 or 5 trips to his house yesterday before I got the owner outside to talk to him and wasn’t w/o some effort (banging on their door). They were clearly hiding in their house. He finally said he would pay for our puppy’s vet bills in front of the cops. They called the cops on me, but one of the cops told me that the neighbors all complain about the dogs aggression.

God I’m horsefeathering pissed about them and their horsefeathering mutt. I probably would feel less vindictive if he had answered the horsefeathering door the first time I went down to his house.

So sorry about to hear about the attack, hopefully your puppy comes through ok and that your kid is able to get that out of her mind. It just baffles my mind how an owner can be so ignorant to recognize the aggression of their dog. What a horsefeathers person.

I believe the decision to put down the dog is largely depending on local laws. My understanding is that in Chicago the dog can be impounded for up to several days if it's determined that the owner is negligent, and then something like a second offense could result in putting down the animal. Maybe even a muzzle requirement may be an option for the dog.

It seems that getting those neighbors to corroborate your story will assist in some corrective action.

Should put the owner down instead.

I found out state and city laws here mean the dog could be put down, at least muzzled first. This is his second offense, he severed some ladys tendons in her left hand but the owner got away with it because that lady never figured out who he was or where he lived. She tried repeatedly to get ahold of him but he refused to answer her phone calls. For that reason, I am glad they called the cops on me because at least now the cops know somethings up with his dog and gave me the recommendation to call animal control. I hate the idea of putting this dog down because its owner is a [expletive]. I completely understand your sentiment.
