What difference would that make?

Also, just saying "strict national gun laws" doesn't really work. What specific measures would you take?

This also would not "work," since we're just people on a message board. We've hashed and rehashed our own ideas to gun control in this thread and the other politics threads time and time and time again, since these sort of things keep happening time and time and time again. Simple defaulting to, "both sides are nuts; the 2nd Amendment says we can have guns, so what can you really do?" is a FAR more egregious bout of wheel-spinning than what you're accusing everyone else is doing.

Nowhere did I say that.

And the mass shooting issue matters because strict gun control laws may lessen the individual shootings but someone crazy enough to go into a club and shoot up random people will likely go to whatever lengths necessary to get the guns needed for that. Also, America seems to have way more than the usual share of crazy MF'ers who go that route than a place like Australia. But before somebody accuses me of something I didn't say, I'M NOT USING ANY OF THIS AS A REASON AGAINST GUN LAWS. My only argument is that I don't think it's as easy as many of you seem to think it is. It seems like lawmakers in the country lost the ability to work together towards compromises on issues somewhere along the way. That just makes the other side dig their heels in even more refusing to budge an inch from their stance. That is a major problem.

Literally no one on planet earth thinks it will be easy. Just because we can't stop every mass shooting doesn't mean that "lessen the individual shootings" isn't still an achievable and desirable goal. People will not go through "whatever lengths necessary to get the guns needed" for massacres - that is just an easy copout to advocate doing nothing. You think some of the mentally ill people and adolescents who have committed some of these crimes are going to successfully navigate the black market to purchase weapons? Every point of resistance you can put in place to deter people from acquiring a weapon will prevent at least some people getting a gun.

I know you think you are saying something interesting here but these are the same argument that get rolled out after every one of these massacres. "It's hard. There is so many guns. We can't stop all shootings." You are talking about compromise when one side's position is very much that any compromise will eventually lead to gun prohibition so never give ground. They couldn't even ban bump stocks (though Trump said "it's coming") after the Las Vegas massacre where almost 60 people are killed.

Hmm, a lot of things are clear cut and black and white. There’s a right and a wrong. People get a tad sensitive defending people who are flat out wrong

Ah, yes; if only it could as useful as, "let's wait for and cater to the side that is pro-gun over all else and refuses to budge at all, even after massacre after massacre."

You don't need to coddle people who are stubbornly, defiantly and completely in the wrong. The pro-gun side has repeatedly shown its ass, and has decided to value the right to hump guns over everything and everyone else at stake when it comes to gun control. The gun control side has repeatedly proposed and tried to enact measures to try and curtail the tsunami of guns in this country, and the pro-gun side has responded by doubling down EVERY SINGLE TIME.

If only the NRA felt people were more understanding and open of their cause, I'm sure we'd have new gun control legislation in no time.

Give me a horsefeathering break. Fact of the matter is most Americans support reasonable gun legislation and legislatures introducing gun laws aren't introducing the "horsefeathers you dumb gun-humping Hillbillies Bill of 2018". The problem is R (mostly) legislatures who think doing the same thing (nothing) is precisely the solution. Unfortunately the solution isn't nt to the same problem you or I is worried about.

We have reached the point where we have multiple mass shooting survivors now. There's a guy that was at the Las Vegas shooting and the bar shooting this week. I guess there was a group of people from the Las Vegas shooting that would meet up at that bar, and at least one of the dead had also been at Las Vegas.

I’m shocked this doesn’t happen more often, especially when the criminal is white and the security guard/shop owner/armed civilian is non-white
