Guys, just take advantage of it. Buy him early and enjoy when he continuously gets ratings boosts throughout the year.

FYI, if anyone is planning on getting The Show, Target has a BOGO 50% off deal on all non-nintendo video games right now. So you grab yourself a little something extra. Planning on getting the Shadow of the Colossus remake with mine later.

so is anything different gameplay wise in The Show 18? Downloading the digital version right now.

i think this year im going to spend more time fine tuning my hitting skills - of course i say that every year like Heyward.

also need to stop rage quiting once I start losing.

hitting is improved. there's more missions/programs than ever before (over 1,000 missions available at launch). team epics won't drop until sometime in april. there's a practice mode where you can work on hitting specific pitches thrown at certain areas in and out of the strike zone (finally!!!).

Thoughts:
- I like the new UI, the previous ones felt like I was still on a PS2.
- Just started franchise with current rosters. Schwarber's overall is 73. There is a minor leaguer in the Cubs system, Jose Castillo, with a higher overall - 75.
- Not sure how I feel about points being auto-applied in RTTS. Whatever I guess, its pretty evenly distributed.
- Yu Darvish only has 5 pitches
- Fictional hologram of Starlin Castro looks angry to be on the Marlins
- Lester's ERA last year was listed as 5.04 when I started franchise which is inaccurate, I've been noticing a lot of inaccurate stats.

Do you guys still recommend zone hitting?

I haven't owned a baseball game in ages...I really couldn't even tell you when the last one I got was...but I picked up The Show 2018.

I started with the difficulty on easy...and I'm thinking I may need to up it a bit. My RTTS character has an 11 game hit streak and a .450 average, though no homers yet. Also, other than pitchouts, I've not had a pitcher throw outside the strike zone yet in RTTS.

on easy (rookie), they'll only throw strikes for the most part. veteran/all-star/hall of fame/legend difficulties are where the pitchers start to use the off-speed stuff and throw pitches outside of the zone.

Yeah, they start the learning curve really low, but there has been a setting in the previous version where the difficulty will automatically escalate as your character progresses.

I popped in last year's copy of MLB the Show just to play a few games, only to discover that the save file for my franchise has been erased. So horsefeathers this game, I guess

what hitting view do you guys use while playing against real people? last year i used the show 15, but everyone says strike zone is the best. my number one problem with hitting is that i can't lay off low breaking stuff way out of the zone.

strike zone all the way. power swing is useful this year, too. sit on the high stuff and launch it.

Never saw much chatter here about Assassin's Creed: Origins.

I just platinum'd it, and I think it was the second best game in the series. The world was amazingly detailed (and varied in topography, architecture, etc.), the Egyptian mythology mixed with the Roman presence was a satisfying mix of historical landmarks, and they limited the modern day nonsense to almost nothing.

I'm seriously considering buying the DLC for it (and I almost never do that)

the only reason i don't use strike zone view is you cannot see the batter/stances which sort of ruins the aesthetic enjoyment of the game

I thought it was great and a refreshing soft reboot of the franchise. Like you said the world was incredibly immersive and it was fun to explore, especially exploring areas that I was not properly level'd for, as it was sort of an adventure avoiding people who attack on sight. That said, the story was sort of weak. It was decent at first when it was all about
Spoiler: show
tracking his son's killers. The mission where you end up getting drugged and wake up left to die covered to the neck in sand was pretty cool etc. Eventually though the story lost me, I didn't know who half the people were (possibly a condition of playing while my kids were still awake and running around screaming). I had no idea who his son's real killer was when it was revealed, and I don't fully understand why they are aiding Cleopatra and why they are now against her at the point of the story I am at.
That really killed a lot of the enjoyment because the missions ended up all being similar feeling after a certain point. I have slowed down playing it quite a bit but will eventually finish it.

Oh I also hated the ship missions. I enjoyed them in black flag and the gameplay is fairly similar but for whatever reason they were just annoying and boring to me. Glad there wasn't aton of them.

The first Guacamelee was a blast...one of my favorite Metroidvania games. Very excited for this one.
