For those old enough to remember when WGN showed Cubs games on TV, the other days were filled with reruns of the Andy Griffith Show. Some genuinely brilliant comedy there.

I had a pretty strong dislike for that show as a kid bc when I turned on wgn and it was on, it meant the cubs weren't.

I've overcome my irrational hatred of it since.

Yes, this. Or, alternately, that damn whistling meant cartoons/Batman/Addams Family/etc. were over.

It is completely the opposite for me. I have good memories of the Andy Griffith Show, mostly because I associate it with the Cubs. When I was a kid, I'm pretty sure it was on WGN at 12:30, followed by Lead-Off Man at 1:00.

I wouldn't have been watching it at 1. I would have been turning it on at 3.

Oh my, all the mediocre ball players I remember from my youth, the artificial turf, the Marlins teal hats, pre-roided Sosa. So many memories.

Agreed.

The whistle meant Tom & Jerry or Scooby Doo was over. Or the technicolor cheesy Batman show. The whistle meant black & white, no more gratuitous violence. No more fun.

Channel changer please.

No one was making fun of Andy Griffith. I can’t emphasize that enough.

Except mid-june to mid-august, yes.
