The Cubs’ transaction list under Epstein and Hoyer reads like a work of fiction, a wish-fulfillment list composed in hindsight.

Is it too soon to wonder if, and how, this messes up the story for the upcoming movies?

I know Episode VIII has already been filmed, but presumably Leia would have played a somewhat large role in Episode IX as well.

I wonder if they will figure out a way to write her out at the end of Episode VIII, or if that will be addressed in Episode IX.

They could write her out in the opening of IX and use the Rogue One style CGI for one scene maybe

I have seen it suggested that the opening crawl of Episode IX could announce her death and then the movie opens with her funeral, which seems like as good a way to handle it as any and the funeral could serve as a tribute to her.

I like it. I mean I wish it didn't have to happen, but this would be a very thoughtful way to handle it

"Leia wasn't really a Princess, but more of an orphan, owned by Bail Organa.

Her turbulent marriage to Han Solo produced a bloodthirsty young son, who killed Han himself, up close and personal. The confused and frightened young man became a dark jedi after the moronic bungling of his training by Leia's hobbit-like brother, Luke. Luke cannot be blamed however, since Jedis are usually quite inept at training apprentices and he was just following in his master's footsteps. Ben, the terrible young dark jedi I was discusding just before, ordered the holocaust of an entire village in a movie kids were allowed to go see, and he was complicit in the destruction of like 20 planets by a thing that was kind of like the Death Star.

In summation, Leia was not really a Princess, but an orphan owned by Bail Organa and we can all look back and remember her as the mostly naked sex slave of Jabba the Hutt. Amen and Ave Maria."

The Tarkin CGI, while interesting, was distracting. I don't really remember anything he said in those scenes because I was focused on the CGI. Tarkin's CGI falls in the uncanny valley IMO. The reviewer suggested that all of that could have easily been avoided by just giving Tarkin's role to Vader. By doing that it would have removed the awkwardness of Tarkin's scenes and given us a little more Vader, but not too much. Also it would have been cool to see Vader in more of a puppet master role. I also feel like we really didn't need to see Leia's face because that CGI was wonky with her as well. Even her face in side profile CGI would have been fine, but when she faced the camera and talked it definitely looked wonky.

I disagree with all of that.

Tarkin was a largely political figure, which Vader is not. Vader doesn't need to steal "credit" for the Death Star. The whole point of having Tarkin in there was to steal the Death Star from Krennic and explain why he was in charge of the Death Star in ANH. Vader substituting for that wouldn't have made sense.

And Leia was on screen for like 2 seconds. She was delivered for sheer shock and nostalgia, and looked just fine. Certainly there was no "distraction" from the overall plot for the final second of the film.

Almost two weeks since the release of the latest Star Wars film, Rogue One, but much of the talk surrounding the movie is about characters from 40 years ago. Now, in an interview with The New York Times, several of Rogue One’s most prominent contributors have given their accounts of the film’s controversial decisions.

So I saw Rogue One again last night and
Spoiler: show
holy horsefeathers the last scene with Leia ruined me. I was fine most of the day yesterday, but didn't even consider that scene until it popped up on screen and it hits a completely different note now and might just do that from now on.
