Watching the trailer again, I was dumb to think that wasn't Luke in the wreckage.

I'm still not sure Kylo doesn't pull the trigger on killing his mom. All we see is the struggle, while the voice over says he needs to do it to fulfill his destiny (or something)

All the non-Rey/Kylo stuff has no context at all, so who knows what all that's about

My wife's friend rented out an entire showing of The Last Jedi and is inviting family and friends to come see it. We're going. $20/person includes a seat and concessions. Sure beats fighting the gen pop for good seats

The Last Jedi has had some really great posters. This one is excellent.

I was asking my son (he's 9) if we'd find out who Snoke is at the end of The Last Jedi and he got the idea to ask Siri with predictable results.
"No Siri, not What's smoke; No Siri, not who spoke" after about different tries he gave up.

He was using my wife's phone and she has the English guy's voice instead of the Siri female voice.

I told him, "Try calling it D.A.V.I.D."

I don't want to live in a world where Jar Jar is more liked than Kylo Ren.

How is Jyn Erso the only character from Rogue One? Every character in that movie is a total badass in one way or another.

Just recently saw Rogue One and I thought it was pretty damn good. You're right, each of the main characters are great.

This is awesome if true, but I hope it's not a Lord and Miller situation....

Just read some twitter reactions to the premier last night and I'm now sufficiently hyped.

I can't wait to see this, but aren't those types of immediate reactions from premiers almost always fawning?

Just rewatched Ep7 and yeah, it's derivative, but man, that moment Rey force-grabs the lightsaber out of the snow is horsefeathering outstanding. Goosebumps every time

Honestly, complaining about TFA being "derivative," as if a non-derivative SW movie is a thing that exists, seem to be doing so seemingly out of some kind of self-imposed obligation to make it seem like they couldn't possibly like it TOO much, and I have no idea why. Like, if TFA is too derivative, then how is R1 not?

I mean, a giant reason ANH was successful in the first place is because it paid such explicit to homage to other films/made use of insanely well-trod story structures/tropes and simply deposited them into a world of space wizards and lasers.

Not to rehash the entire conversation again, but I was simply referring to the storyline basically mirroring ANH. It doesn't ruin the movie for me. I also forget how funny TFA is, some genuine laugh out loud moments

Well, yeah, that's what I'm talking about. It's pretty hard to launch a new fantasy saga and NOT have it mirror ANH, or LotR, or The Hobbit, etc., etc., etc. at the jump.

I loved TFA, and I get what you're saying, but they maybe could've not had another Death Star. I don't think that would've been too difficult.

It was always going to end with some kind of big battle, so ultimately you're just swapping out one gigantic space-threat for another. Would it really have mattered all the much if it was, say, something that punched planets apart instead of blasting them? It's still just going to be, "the heroic forces need to destroy the huge immediate threat," since that's been the climax to literally every SW movie except for ESB.

My only complaint about the climax is that it was just really boringly staged, even compared to the space battles in the prequels. RotJ's big space shindig is just a rehash of ANH, but they managed to make that pop thanks to how much more they could do effects-wise in just 6 years. TFA's is staged very uncreatively like a video game level (which ultimately is more of a superficial gripe since the real meat of it is the stuff happening on the ground), and that's too bad since just a year later with R1 they showed that it's not an inherent problem to have the same setup as the other films and still manage to deliver easily.

I really didn't mind them going all out on relating the new trilogy to the originals. I felt that there was enough uniqueness to the TFA that it was still its own movie instead of a straight reboot. I do want to see these next two movies take things in a different direction, though.
