UPDATE: Shortly after this story broke, Lucasfilm reached out to Premiere France to say there was a misunderstanding. "We would love to tell a story about Lando Calrissian one day, but it's not relevant, it would be fun to tell the story of Han and Chewie."

SOLO is a blast and a ton of fun! The first hour is non-stop action more or less.

9/10

One thing that made me scratch my head:

Spoiler: show
darth maul’s cameo felt shoe-horned.

I also liked:

Spoiler: show
the tongue-in-cheek throwbacks to some of the silly crap from the extended universe like the TERAS KASI fighting style. I have the STAR WARS: MASTERS OF TERAS KASI game for ps1 and it’s total horsefeathering garbage. I laughed when Kira name-dropped it after her fight sequence inside the Kessel spice mine.

Every single thing in Solo worked for me. I was skeptical ... but it was real good. I couldn't be more impressed.

i've had over 12 hours to digest solo and i can't wait to see it again. the first hour felt like the best parts of an indiana jones movie: great action set-pieces, snappy dialogue and FUN!

kudos to ron howard since i don't know what type of footage he was given once lord and miller got the axe but he put together a really good movie under those circumstances.

Solo...

Spoiler: show
So I wonder if the Rian Johnson trilogy involves Maul and Kira. They can't have brought him back from the dead and left her story so open ended for no reason. Perhaps his trilogy runs concurrent with 4-6 and lead up to 7-9, with whatever Maul is up to and where Snoke comes in (or Maul becomes Snoke).

Spoiler: show
he didn’t die in the phantom menace. Maul appeared in the clone wars and Star Wars: rebels cartoons, which are considered canon in the Star Wars universe.

ah, haven't watched the cartoons. Still seems like they were setting something up with that scene.

Wouldn't surprise me if they were doing just that; there's just not going to be some grand fate for him in the films unless they toss out the TV series.

I'm not worried about whether or not you liked it; I just find it hilarious that anyone would have to "think about" a really basic summer blockbuster like this.

Yes, hilarious.

But yeah, it was fine. Not as good as Rogue One. It suffered some from the same thing that all prequels suffer from (we know the heroes survive so all of the action scenes lose some oomph) but a lot of the set pieces were fun.

The movie was fun and mostly good and I liked it. Don’t need to over think this.

I'm not overthinking it.

The audience at my showing was weirdly dead. It was an almost full house, but the energy was really low. No one laughed at ANYTHING, which made all of the jokes feel awkward instead of funny. It was an odd juxtaposition between this and Rogue One; when I saw R1, K2SO got a ton of laughs, while tonight, L3-37 got NONE. I think the only laugh the whole movie was when

Spoiler: show
Lando flew away

Gauging the energy level of a theatre for a movie seems like something Bill Simmons would tweet about

I'm saying I don't know if the jokes sucked or if the audience sucked.
