They're also arguably the strongest looking team in the PAC-12... I mean if you want to look at it that way then who would want to play that Penn State team? They lost to Michigan by 40.

When Schwarber wins the WS with a big fat dong and uses his bat to club to death every player on the other team and half their fans, I expect every one of these talking heads to defend him. -yanrslatr

Aren't you gonna get USC in the Rose Bowl? That's a pretty marquee game

It is, but I think there's something to the idea of the two remaining champs playing each other. USC is a good game, but they have 3 losses and didn't even play in their title game

There's a decent argument to be made that USC is the best team not in the playoff the way they have played the last 8 games. "They didn't play in their title game" is a line I would love to see vaporized.

Penn State shouldn't be allowed near a playoff or bowl game for at least as long as ignoring child rape happened

What you'd actually get:

Bama vs. FSU/Western Michigan
Clemson vs. USC
Ohio State vs. Oklahoma
Washington vs. Penn St.

Five conference champs + plus next best 2 at larges (or 3 if they don't guarantee the top Group of 5 team a place) with a max of 2 per conference. And it would be equal parts hilarious and ridiculous that 9-3 Louisville gets left out for 9-3 Florida State despite beating them by 43 (ditto for Michigan/Penn State).

And I'm not disagreeing, your top-8 would be fun.

Purdue got Jeff Brohm. I'm more excited about this than I probably should be but getting a creative offensive minded coach is huge. We were never going to win with Hazell trying to play Tressel-Ball.
