i saw someone else make this joke on twitter and i just didn't see how it lands...the bulls have traded a good player for a disappointing return in recent memory...once? (which ironically he was part of the return for)

typically they've traded disappointing players, sometimes for surprisingly good returns.

They weren't good players, but I'm guessing dumping Taj and McDermott for exactly horsefeathering nothing for no real reason is probably part of the joke.

Please let the Bulls be on the right side of one of these 2nd round pick trades just once. I mean, Okafor and Markaanen are a decent place to start the rebuild.

Is that all it would take to get him? I'm all for bringing him on board at a low cost, we are definitely a team in position to give him every chance to succeed. That said, I personally don't have particularly high hopes for him from what I've read. I have absolutely no hope for his defense which I've read is terrible and beyond redemption and his rebounding rate is particularly poor for a big man. I feel like the hope for him is to become a 2004-2005 Eddy Curry type player. I am basing this only on stats and what I've read and I've seen very little of him so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

If that's the case, I would not really consider him a foundation for the rebuild, but I'd still be all about taking a chance on him regardless.

Edit: I should also mention that he's not a great fit for the "new NBA" or Fred's offense but I wouldn't worry about fitting pieces around Hoiberg or anything. He does have a great post game and while he won't stretch the floor at all, there is still some value to that.

Yeah he’s not very good. I wouldn’t touch him even for cheap, his game just isn’t where the nba is right now. He requires you to tailor offenses/lineups totally towards him to be effective and he’s not worth that. Especially because it could get in the way of Markkanen’s deveolpment and once Lavine comes back you are gonna want to see what he has/how he works with Markkanen since there’s a relatively small sample to judge him with what to do with his contract in the offseason. Okafor just muddies the waters on the Bulls, imo

Isn't Okafor a FA after this season?

Yeah, he is.

He's not a guy we should give anything up for, when he can just be signed next year. I kind of like the idea of him as a second unit scorer.

On the other hand, I've seen some things where you guys would gobble him up under that injury exception you guys got for Hayward.

Lauri's worst game as a pro, 12 and 2. Only took 3 shots after the first quarter.

Portis went for 21 and 13 lol.

I don’t mind okafor from a “screw it we’re rebuilding, let’s see what pieces can turn into something” perspective but I don’t see much purpose to a guy who basically is a post player that’s too slow to defend modern nba bigs in today’s NBA

Sweet I guess Reinsdorf changed his mind.

I was too young to really remember the last Bulls (88), Cubs (90) or Blackhawks (91?) All Star games and I wasn't living in Chicago for the White Sox in 2003 so this is pretty cool

the game has obviously changed and the 3's i'm sure help him get into this arbitrary grouping, but it's still kind of crazy that there's been that few

The Cubs’ transaction list under Epstein and Hoyer reads like a work of fiction, a wish-fulfillment list composed in hindsight.

I think the 3s matter less than Pace. And with the 90s to aughts being the slow pace era... the number makes sense. Pre 1983 there were probably like 50 of these guys.

Hopefully he can pick it up to run down Christian Laettner's pace.

Markkonen sprained an ankle at the end of the first half. Double digit streak ends at 10.

I'm really confused about why the Bulls will be hosting the All-Star game in 2020... I mean that's cool, but I doubt the host city will have any All-Stars in that game unless Markanen or LaVine improve a lot. It's possible I guess. I think the Bulls will be pretty bad for like the next 3-4 years though.

It's a shame we never got to host the game when the Bulls were good, and D. Rose still had functioning knees/ligaments and was a great player.

It's still 2 seasons away. Lauri could make it, whoever the Bulls take in the top 4 next year could make it and as much as it would hurt a proper rebuild, I still believe the Bulls are going to try to take a big swing in FA this year, given all the stories about how only I think 5 teams are expected to be under the cap this offseason (In order from most to least: Indiana, Chicago, LA Lakers, Dallas, Atlanta) and really only the top 3 have significant cap space. So yeah the Lakers will probably sign LeBron and possibly George, and the Bulls will have their choice of whoever doesn't resign with their current team (Cousins, DeAndre Jordan, Isaiah Thomas, Chris Paul). Or they punt on this mediocre class and look at 2019 (Melo, Klay Thompson, Kemba Walker)

And if they don't have an AS, oh well. Is it really that big of a deal? Ideally you'd like one when you host but its happened before (Denver in 2005, Atlanta in 2003)

Could be worse. Portland (1970) and Sacramento(moved in 1985) have never hosted. Boston hasn't hosted since 1964.

Is there another melo or is the famous one really still somebody teams would want to sign in 2019? How old is he, 35?
