Like this move a lot. Asik has two years left on his deal, but the Bulls can pay it. Losing Niko will just help the tanking efforts and I'm not sold on New Orleans being all that good the rest of the season.

Yeah I like it too. Not sure how much Asik is getting paid, but assuming the contract was made before the cap exploded so should be reasonable. Given that Niko still wanted out, this might be the best possible deal we could get for him.

Sounds like it could still happen. The Pelicans need to send more salary back. That MAY be the issue for now. But, it could be Niko blocking it. The Bulls would need to pick up his option, which seems like a no-brainer that the Pels would want, to me anyway.

Unless they literally want to try him out/salvage the playoff run with Cousins out and still have the ability to decide on next year?

I'd almost prefer the pick be heavily protected, as long as it eventually pays out without restrictions (and doesn't just turn into a second rounder or something). Protect it out for like 5 years and then wait for them to lose Davis, suck, and pick up a top 5 pick exactly the time well need good, affordable players to plug holes.

They could prefer that. But, it SEEMS like a best case scenario for them....Add him for next year and figure out what to give Cousins too. They're hamstrung contractually otherwise.

Now, that'd be an ideal move to try and make.....

Sounds like the Pelicans ARE balking about the option year. Niko wants it picked up. They're unsure, due to having to pay the LT, when bringing back Cousins lol. Cheap ass team.

Still can get done though, just have to add extra players.

Yeah, they're haggling over the option year is what it looks like. Picking up the option seems like a no-brainer to me... It really shouldn't be that hard to find a team for Niko next year if they decide to re-sign Cousins and don't want to pay Niko.

I'm not super high on bringing back Asik, but I guess he could be useful and won't help the Bulls win that many games down the stretch. Curious about the draft pick and how much protection it has -- it could end up being a decent pick. Hopefully the trade happens and doesn't fall through.

Phoenix bought out Greg Monroe, who's from New Orleans actually. So, unless the Celts can convince him, he's probably taking the Pelicans off Niko.

The Bulls gave up 50 to CJ McCollum in 3 quarters last night. The tank is back on, baby.

The Cubs’ transaction list under Epstein and Hoyer reads like a work of fiction, a wish-fulfillment list composed in hindsight.

Assume that just means like, top 3 protected right? Very slim chance they even fall out of the playoffs in the first place.

Edit: Top 5, and apparently we threw in a second round pick. Whatever.

man, how does Asik have two more years AFTER this season on this deal? didn't he immediately start physically deteriorating when he left chicago the first time?

in a vacuum, his salary isn't that bad. what does this do to our flexibility in signing FAs in the next few years?

A lot depends on Lavine, but they should be able to still get a max player in 2018 or 19 I think.

We were probably going to sell that second rounder anyway.

Their pick being top 5 this year seems wildly unlikely, so we'll most likely be getting two picks in the top 15.

If they can trade Lopez, they should have enough space to get a max this offseason. But yeah, 2019 they'll definitely have enough cap space to get a max guy.

The Knicks are evidently willing to trade their 1st, to get rid of Noah. I'd do it. It'd be taking on 38 mill over the following 2 seasons, but you'd be able to send one of Asik or Felicio, or Lopez back, I'm sure.

Based on the roster, I THINK you could still have room to add a max after next season, and still do that.....

But, you've got a likely top 5 pick, a 15-20 pick, and the Knicks pick is probably 8-12. I'd love to find a way to get one from Ayton, Bagley, Bamba, or JJJ plus one from Doncic, Young, or Porter.

Adding the Knicks pick could make that a reality.

Probably could do Lopez for Noah to get that pick and then stretch Noah and have room for the max.
