Good to see they finally wised up and put the semi-finals on New Years Day. Putting them on New Years Eve was stupid as hell.

Wasn't that due to New Year's Day being on a Sunday last year, thus overlapping with the NFL schedule?

They are always New Year's Day when the Rose and Sugar host. The other years they will be the Saturday before New Year's Day. They started that last year but that happened to be New Year's Eve so no one noticed.

I scored 4 tickets to the Rose Bowl and am so excited to attend. I've got no real dog in Oklahoma/Georgia (I was hoping OSU would have, unlikely, snagged a spot) but it looks like it'll be a great game. I've never been inside the Rose Bowl and just the atmosphere around it is stirring me into a frenzy. I love living in California.

I have a cousin who graduated from Michigan State and he went the year they beat Stanford. I was extremely envious.

I've been to three, but not for a very long time. Haven't been to a real bowl game since 2000 Orange Bowl, but I did see the pinstripe bowl a few years ago.

OMC, any further intel on this?

If—when?—[Deontay ] Anderson gets that waiver that should open the floodgates for the entire 2016 class.

Irrelevant since Ole Miss got the 2nd year bowl ban. Any player that wishes to transfer and to be immediately eligible to play next year can apply for a waiver, which will likely be granted by the NCAA.

Shea Patterson will be the only major loss due to the bowl ban thing. He's a big loss, but it's not as devastating for Ole Miss as one might think. When he went down his replacement, a Hawaiian kid named Jordan Ta'amu stepped up and played much better than Patterson did. Ole Miss has him for another two years.

Patterson will be at Michigan next year, fwiw.

There's a conspiracy theory out there that Ole Miss got the 2nd year bowl ban because the NCAA wanted to kick this "I want a transfer because I was misled" issue down the road. Thus, by giving the 2nd year ban, this allows the NCAA to skirt the issue. The theory is that when Ole Miss appeals the ban, they'll win and have that ban removed, but by then the players that wanted to leave will have already left. The reason many think they're likely to win that appeal is because there are no other instances in recent memory where the NCAA gave a school a two year bowl ban but didn't hit them hard anywhere else. If you look at the past instances where schools received a 2+ year ban, that punishment was accompanied with devastating scholarship reductions, etc. Ole Miss basically got off very light except for the 2nd year ban, which most commentators feel is very strange. But that's tin-foil hat stuff. Who knows...

Old Style, I’m curious about your opinion of John Chavis, just hired as DC at Arkansas. He was one of the best DC in the country at LSU but struggled a bit at aTm.

I'm still not quite sure what to think of his tenure at A&M. He should've had enough talent to field better defenses than he did but the offenses didn't do them any favors while he was there. In the end I think he needs to coach on a team that plays ball control offense and that he will struggle when paired up with quick strike offenses.

So, the opposite of a Chad Morris offense. Got it. Fantastic.

49 straight after UVA took the opening kickoff back for a touchdown. Playing them is hell.

I think it's really disgraceful to the sport of football when a player takes a knee in the endzone for a touchback. they should salute the football itself imo

the referee in the Northwestern/Kentucky game just tried helping up a RB after a play. he pulled his hands back from the ref who then threw a flag for “making contact with an official” and ejected him
