This is a wild offseason. I’m sure the Thunder will send Paul somewhere for even more picks. It’s going to be the Knicks isn’t it.

Wow. You could make an argument for like half the NBA to either contend or be a total bust. Next season is going to be wild.

The Rockets are such [expletive] frauds. This is going to be the epitome of their, "well, this SHOULD work amazingly on paper, so let's just go for it" bull horsefeathers blowing up in their faces.

They never should have let Beverly leave. They’re a soft fantasy league team.

I don’t think they’ll win the title either but it’s probably better than just running it back with Paul again.

They're gonna have to blow it up eventually. Better do it before they lose all those picks in 4-6 years frok this trade.

I'd agree except for sending those picks. They're really not any better and they will be totally horsefeathers in a few years. Fine with me. I hate watching the Rockets.

They’re not blowing it up with James Harden in his prime though. Which means you have to do something to try to get better. Whether or not this was the love to make them better is certainly up for debate.

If this Harden/Westbrook marriage fails, they should seriously consider blowing it up next offseason. Get value for Harden while you still can (or before he dictates it and tries to force his way out).

rockets gm tweets "fight for freedom. stand with hong kong." and china loses its horsefeathers:

Adam Silver reacts as Chinese TV cancels NBA game broadcasts

the athletic takes it time to write an article about the relationship between the nba & china then proceed to delete any critical responses to the article:

The Athletic didn't post on the China story all weekend. When they finally posted a story, it suggested "Hong Kong is a part of China, and the people there should play by the same rules as the people on the mainland." Over 200 comments, most of them critical, were then deleted.

Thee most outspoken NBA folks on current events are dead silent, too. Gross.

It's a pretty terrible response by the NBA/ESPN/etc. That being said, it's amazing how many of the people who hated Kaepernick and told Lebron to shut up and stick to sports and now suddenly super passionate about human rights in China.

I can’t wait for NBA stars to defy the league and stand up for democracy and human rights.

Just kidding. Keep slinging those jerseys, James.

As the dispute between the NBA and China escalated, one of the first on-court stars to speak publicly was 2018 most-valuable player James Harden.

“We apologize. You know, we love China. We love playing there,” Harden said from a Houston Rockets practice in Tokyo. Standing next to All-Star teammate Russell Westbrook, he added, “For both of us individually, we go there once or twice a year. They show us the most important love.”

Absolutely, but the protests in Hong Kong have been going on for months, the brutal human rights violations in China for longer than that. But as soon as Clay Travis, et al could use this to criticize the NBA, Lebron, etc, they suddenly jumped all over it.

More people watch NBA games in China than they do in the US. The NBA is going to suck up to the Chinese government because it's a billion dollar business over there.

Super gross

Really ashamed of the conduct of Adam Silver and NBA players regarding this whole situation. Yeah, I fully agree that the Chinese government can go to hell...

Apologies in advance for the political statement in this thread...

Now let's get the rich white owners to care and speak out about the tens of thousands of immigrants imprisoned by our own government.

I know what you're saying but this isn't even close to being in the same ballpark.

kind of irritated by the attitude of "ah you have an opinion on an issue that's of personal importance to you? ok hot shot now correctly opine on a totally different issue of my choosing"

obviously the Association looks craven & pathetic here but the gotcha stuff with some of the players is a reach imo; it's ok to not weigh in if you don't really have a well-formed opinion

There is definitely some gotcha-ing, but "I need to learn more about the issue" is a major cop out in this case. It's not like these questions are coming up out of the blue -- NBA player/coach/GM/owner perspectives on China are incredibly relevant now.

Guys like Kerr and Pop and Lebron don't need to understand the history of the Qing Dynasty to say that censorship and shipping citizens off to camps (and doing god knows what to them) because of their religion are bad things.

it is a cop out, but Morey nearly lost his job (and immediately was required to show obsequious remorse) for offering the most seemingly basic support for Hong Kong protesters; the NBA put everybody in a real bad spot here because they have zero moral backbone -- who is ready to lose their sponsorships or whatever for this, an issue they might not previously have been hyper aware of, in all honesty
