NFL final week of regular season

Postby jersey cubs fan » Mon Dec 23, 2019 8:40 pm

Go Seahawks. Vikings win tonight and Seattle next week and Saints get the #1 seed.

Half decent chance the Raiders make the playoffs. Steelers get the Ravens. Ravens are resting starters, but the Steelers are starting a terrible QB. Titans get the Texans, who probably don't have anything to play for, but I haven't heard if they are resting anyone. If not, they have a good shot for the win at home. The -5 line to the Titans means someone thinks they are resting starters. Raiders need both those teams to lose and they need to beat the lowly Broncos.

For the sake of my nephew and the Bears 2nd round draft pick, Go TITANS!

Colts also have to win. If it's Raiders-Titans-Steelers, the Titans go because of strength of victory. But if Indy wins, they knock out Tennessee because of a better divisional record. Raiders beat Indy and have strength of victory tiebreaker over Pittsburgh. Raiders also need a win by the Bears, Lions, Chiefs or Pats.

The Raiders stink though. They're probably going to lose.

Houston hasn't announced either way because they won't know until game time if they have something to play for. If KC wins (home to the Chargers), they get the 3 seed. But if KC loses, Houston gets the 3 seed with a win. KC plays in the early games but Houston plays later. If KC wins, Houston will rest everybody.

Don't they usually arrange the schedule so games that affect each other are at the same time? Or is that only for in-out the playoffs(I see the 4 AFC games and the Eagles-Giants are playing at the same time)

I thought they did. They must not do it for seeding differences that don’t matter as far as whether or not you get a bye or division vs WC. So 3 vs 4 you’re getting a home game but not a bye so that’s not as important.

Just looking at the schedule, NE and KC play at the same time as do NO and GB (who wins and loses could affect byes). Dal and Philly are at the same time. Pitt/Ten/Oak are all at the same time.

This might be the single most hilarious and bat [expletive] insane article ever written by a sports writer. The anonymous sports news source/s strikes again:

https://www.nydailynews.com/sports/foot ... story.html

Adam Gase has a message for every long-suffering Jets fan, who has endured a lifetime of anguish: He doesn’t care about you.

The Daily News has learned that the embattled head coach has privately told people for months that Gang Green diehards have never mattered to him.

“I’m rich as f--k” has become Gase’s go-to line since taking over 11 months ago, according to sources. Gase has repeatedly said it to anyone that mentions the avalanche of criticism this year. It has become his defense mechanism.

“He’s an insecure guy,” a Jets source told the News. It’s a slap in the face to every fan, who has invested their time and money in a poor product for years. The last thing someone supporting this franchise needs to hear is the head coach boasting about his bloated bank account.

Gase also has said behind closed doors that his “Give-A-Sh--t meter” is low when it comes to critics since he’s got enough money in the bank now (thanks to Christopher Johnson).

The Bucs losing on a Jameis pick 6 is so amazing.

He's also the first player with 30 TDs and 30 INTs in a season.

He was never head coach material. Knew it when he left. I think a few others here were scratching their heads too.

Seattle’s in an interesting position. If they win, they get the 3 seed and play Minnesota at home. If they lose, they get the 5 seed and play at Philly/Dallas. So they don’t have a huge incentive to win. They’re playing next weekend regardless and the choices are playing a tougher team at home or a weaker team on the road.

The Niners on the other hand have big incentive to win because they get the 1 seed with a win and the 5 with a loss.

Doubt Seattle wants to have to travel to the east coast. And being a division winner gives them a small shot at a second home game in the NFC Championship Game. Also, not common for a team to make SB winning three road games.

Christian McCaffrey went 1,000/1,000, 3rd guy ever. Marshall Faulk 99 and Roger Craig in the 80s.

Carolina went 5-11 and got their horsefeathers kicked in the entire month of December. Way to go, guys. Please draft Tua.

Comparing the point differentials to the final records of some of these teams is wild.

The Patriots lucked out big time not having to see the Bills in the playoffs. I don't like the Bills as a deep run playoff team or anything, but a division opponent in a WC game against that defense is limping away with a victory tops

Instead the Pats' defense will end up pantsing Tannehill handily and Laremy Tunsil will get a shot to show he's the Texans' MVP. What a great example Tunsil is of how tight the NCAA/NFL machine is...talked about as a generational talent while the NCAA and Ole Miss made all the money, reputation and status attacked on draft day (what a coincidence!!!) over *weed* just as it's time for him to make some money, and at 25 is an afterthought best known for smoking weed and being the guy from an expensive trade despite realizing his potential and becoming probably the best LT in the league

The Tannehill playing for the Titans isn't the same as the Tannehill playing for Gase. The Pats are only 4.5 point favs at home for a reason.

That's huge for a playoff game I would think, especially since the Pats' D >>> their offense. Do they usually get higher? Anyway, Tannehill put on a prettier dress this year thanks to AJ Brown, Derrick Henry, and avoiding his annual concussion or whatever injury, but the best defense by DVOA in his division was Tenn's 18th ranked entering yesterday and I just don't believe he's got big playoff wins in him until he does it

Playing at home is normally a 3-4 point advantage. The odds makers are basically saying the Titans and the Pats are equally good football teams, at this point...which is crazy to think about.

Odds makers wouldn't just give that extra half point to the Pats then if the belief was these two teams are equal

The belief is more people will instinctively put money on the Pats, so the spread is artificially higher in their favor.

Exactly. The odds aren't necessarily set at the closest they can place them to reality. They are set at the point that will make them the most money. The money is going to roll in on the Patriots. ...and I'll take the points.
