Re: Black Monday 2021
There are rumors that Jim Harbaugh is actively trying to generate interest from NFL teams, and his extension offer from Michigan has sat unsigned for a week. Apparently he may have been in LA yesterday to meet with the Chargers about the HC role. Im sure Michigan's AD lowballed him with the contract extension offer and thats why this is happening, but the longer this lingers the more it hurts UM.

I fully expect ATL to go the lazy route and take the interim tag off Raheem Morris.

Re: Black Monday 2021
That was fast and quiet, apparently their 4th(!!) interview already
They're interviewing Dan Mullen, Matt Campbell, Brian Daboll, and Matt Eberflus soon
https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/jets ... of-search/
FTR Matt Campbell would be a great hire, declined the Jets in 2018

Doug Pederson is out in Philly. Would be great if he goes to KC as OC.

Bienemy isn't going anywhere. Apparently bad in interviews and some off field concerns. Only teams that likely would want him are Atlanta and maybe LAChargers.jersey cubs fan wrote:Doug Pederson is out in Philly. Would be great if he goes to KC as OC.

I hadn't heard about off field concerns before. One article I found mentions a few things from his college years and a DUI from like 2001. Is there more than that?

Yeah, it's mostly nonsense teams can use as an excuse not to hire a black coach. DUI, fight in college after being called a racial slur, multiple rapes when he was on the Colorado staff, some assault stuff that got him banned from campus. But nothing since he's been an NFL coach.

“The arrest report outlined the incident: Bieniemy was with five friends in a parking lot when he allegedly approached a lot attendant from behind and grabbed her by the neck. The victim told police the contact was not painful, but it startled her. She said the man also made comments while holding her.
"She stated that the male who grabbed her said something about 'a bunch of black males all at once being her worst nightmare,' " according to the report.
The victim told police the group of men then dropped their pants and began urinating nearby.”
I don’t see why these things would be disqualifying for head coach but not assistant but that’s pretty gross.

During a "Not For Women Only" panel discussion, former Cubs pitcher Mike Bielecki asked several players to invent a baseball catch phrase for Viagra. Theriot's ad campaign: "Viagra -- I always play hard."

I don't really understand why Urban Meyer is doing this, and I really don't understand why Jacksonville is doing this.

I get why Meyer would.
Is it fair to assume this is a Carroll type role where Urban is getting full roster control?

I would be shocked if Urban took a job that didn't offer full control.
Although Khan was the guy who said he would maintain final say on rosters. Could have been carrot to offer the best of the best candidates to admit he's acquiesce.

Lions hired a GM. It's Rams scouting director Brad Holmes. His hire doubles the number of black GMs in the NFL, and also makes the Rams the first team to get 2 3rd round comp picks under the new diversity initiatives.

Re: Black Monday 2021
College HC and pro HC seem like they require different skill sets.
It seems like the guys who’ve washed out transitioning from one to the other far outweigh the success stories, but maybe not. Maybe it’s just that all coaches wash out at a really high rate.
The NFL HCs who went directly from college to the NFL and who have over 100 career victories:
Tom Coughlin
Pete Carroll
Dennis Green
Sid Gillman
Don Coryell
George Allen was a college HC before he became a pro HC, but spent 8 years in between as asst and DC with the Bears under Halas. Halas letting him get away to the Rams and then promoting Jim Dooley instead when Halas retired is one of the big turning points in Bears history.

I think Robert Saleh was the "star" coaching hire in this cycle. Him coming with Mike LeFleur makes this a slam dunk hire for the Jets. Word is they are sticking with Sam Darnold for 2021, and may be looking to trade down from 2.
Sounds like Titans OC, Arthur Smith to Atlanta, who is also going to hire Terry Fontenot from the Saints as their GM. Saints and Niners also will get the two 3rd round comp picks for grooming minority hires.

I don't think I'd feel good about that hire as a Jets fan. Great defensive coach, but we've seen this before. Does he have any in game coaching skills? He's a motivator but how long does that last? Especially in NYC. His OC is going to be very important for his success. And not horsefeathering up the draft.
He just feels like one of those guys that's way better as a DC, kind of like a Fangio. So many DC's turn out to be awful HC's. I think OC's are generally brighter when it comes to in-game decision making and I'd wager they've had more success overall. That rah-rah horsefeathers works on defense but doesn't translate to high IQ game management.

Cause my life is dope and I do dope horsefeathers.
[The sound of fastballs] was one of those things that told me my pitches were fast....because I've never heard pitches as loud as mine.

I know that historically everybody has thought defensive coaches make better HC than offensive guys at the NFL level. We know Belichik is a defense guy, Tomlin as well. Harbaugh was a special teams guy and dabbled in some DB coaching as well prior to his gig in Baltimore. Pete Carroll was a defense guy too. Obviously some recent winners like Reid, Pederson, Kubiak and Coughlin were from the other side of the ball, and my preference is for an offensively minded HC, but there's probably not a lot there in terms of OC actually being better.
