For some reason, Stan signed Jordin Tootoo to a one-year deal.

Maybe Rockford needed an horsefeathers.

Primadonna. He's the highest paid player in the league, the least he can do is show up for the fan convention #hottake #pleasedonttakemeseriously

I irrationally love this and hope it's the reason he's missing the convention. Fan conventions are the absolute worst thing ever. Good for you, Johnny! Get that paper!

Anyone else following the Jimmy Vesey situation? He could be a steal for the Hawks, who are meeting with him today.

Based on Hockey's Future ratings, he would instantly be our top prospect.

He would play on the top lines with Toews.

Have to think Boston and Pittsburgh are favorites over the Hawks though.

Why though? I can understand Boston given that he's from the area. But why Pittsburgh over the Hawks other than that its closer to the east coast? I saw some speculation that the Hawks trading away young talent in recent years might be a knock against him as he doesn't want to choose the Hawks and then get traded to Edmonton in 2 years.

Yes, you would have to think that the Hawks being the most attractive option now, but being traded to Edmonton due to cap issues would put them behind Pittsburgh. If he wants a Cup, the Penguins and the Hawks are the best options now.

Huh, that dude is a realtor and kept sending me stuff after I toured an open house. Didnt know he was an NHL Sirius radio guy which Google confirms to me. I was really confused at first why he was the source if this news.

Let's say we landed Vesey. We probably have to promise a top two line spot to him to get him. What would the lines look like at that point?

Well you don't break up that second line, right?

Hossa taking on a diminished role?

Vesey-Toews-Panik/Hossa
Panarin-Amnisimov-Kane

I'd have to look at the roster again to put together a 3rd line

Vesey-Toews-Panik/Hossa
Panarin-Amnisimov-Kane

Hockey for Dummies question here, bit how strict are the sides for a winger? Hossa and Panik are both listed at RW, but most line projections I've seen currently gave them both in the top line.

As far as the bottom two lines, I think Kruger safely fits into the third C role. After that, it seems like just throwing a bunch of guys out there and seeing what sticks.

Me too.

I think he makes the decision today.

Does he want to play in New York and MSG or go to a team that still has a championship window well open?

I obviously have no idea how these contracts work, but I figured it'd be similar to Panarin's deal. I didn't think we had room to add something this big?

Not sure how the max ELC looked last year but this year the max you can offer in base salary is 925k per, the other 2.875m coming in bonus/incentive money.

Panarin signed for 2/6.775m that was roughly an average base of 700k with 2.7m each year in bonus/incentives.

So is most of the $7.55m not guaranteed then? Part of the reason the Hawks are so tight against the cap is because Panarin hit incentive markers that I don't think anyone expected him to hit (top 10 in scoring, etc). I wouldn't expect those types of things to be included in the reported contract offered. That's what makes me wonder if this is a different type of contract.

Most of it is not guaranteed. Really its a non-story that the Hawks offered the max contract mostly because every team vying for Vesey offered the same max deal.

Makes sense, and that's good news. I had always thought most of his value was tied to his low cap hit unless he blows up like Panarin did (which would be just fine with me).

I've read elsewhere that the chance to line up next to 19 would be one of the main selling points, so I'll assume that he'd at least start up there. I don't really think Panik is a top 6 guy, but putting Hossa with Kruger on the third line is intriguing given how good it looked down the stretch last year. After that, it's anyone's best guess, and probably going to be based on fitting under the cap as much as anything else.
