tbf, the likely LARPer did start their tweet by writing : "Here's what ive been told I can say"

And that’s just the Trout and Harpers of the world - forget the many, many quality and high quality players/employees that aren’t those guys.

Which is why it makes the most sense that rookie deals are cut down. Rookie contracts should be down to 3-4 years (though I think they'll likely only be able to cut it down to 5), and you should have to first bring up a player within 3 years (at the very most) instead of 5.

Exactly. I’m not saying do one without the other. I’m also not proposing any specific plan.

I’m just saying arenado making 26 million this year makes more sense to me than pujols making 28 million this year.

If owners are going to pretend this a free market, then make it a free market. Or whatever.

Ed. note: Theo Epstein is in Boston for Hot Stove Cool Music and Jed Hoyer is in Arizona, so when, who, and where a meeting could have occurred is in question.

I don't think they care about fans expectations for signing. I think they want to get the most money they can, so they will wait until then. Setting arbitrary deadlines is good for the owners, not the players.

He/they are standing behind the source and rumor. Just like last year with that stupid Brewer source and Yu hopefully we end up with Bryce in the end.

Not that I don’t believe the guy but “no horsefeathers” comes to mind on additional contact.

Not that I have any real belief either way if any meetings happened yesterday, but it could have been with Ricketts and Jed being in AZ means not much at all considering it's like what 30 minutes by jet to Vegas?

More likely they had an extensive phone call that someone hearing about it second hand would abbreviate to 'met'.

Much more likely the whole rumor is BS.

Ive been a believer, but I think I’m done. The only way Bryce comes to the Cubs now is the way Andre Dawson did.

The current CBA is up after 2020. If the owners don’t make some concessions in the bargaining of the next CBA, there will be a strike.

CBA runs through 2021. The rest of that is accurate.

This was my guess as well

The tweet has nothing to do with this, if that's what you're suggesting

I was suggesting it, although i was paying attention to the timing. Luke coming back home is a story to some

It seems clear now that Machado and Harper didn't want to upstage the NFL playoffs. Now that the Super Bowl is over, they are sure to sign any minute now.

Bryce Harper has signed with the NE Patriots. They didn't have an open roster spot until after the playoffs ended.

Apparently they didn't want to upstage Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day, or groundhog day either.

Better get a deal done before Valentine's Day and President's Day rolls around the next couple weeks.
