Thanks for your heavy duty work here. The Cubbies would not have won without you.

If he wasn't a scumbag I imagine the Cubs would have legitimately been interested in bringing him back, but that DV ended all shots at an extension or FA chase.

Dear Aroldis,

We won a World Series. You helped. Kindly go horsefeathers yourself now.

Eh, he helped a lot. Even though he's not the best human being, he still was a huge part of the Cubs' success, and throws the ball a million miles an hour accurately with movement. We will miss him.

Glad to see he went to an AL team. Particularly one that is an unlikely 2017 World Series opponent.

Surprised he only got ~17AAV considering Melancon received 15.5AAV (with an opt out).

Here is Chapman aboard his boat, contemplating how mistreated he was.

I don't agree with how he was used either. I'm not gonna get all meatbally about him saying so.

He's trash for what he did but that's not really related to these comments.

I guess I don't see the need to criticize Maddon after the fact. I did look up how he ranked among RPs IP in one postseason and he is towards the top all time but in a group with a number of relievers so its not like he was excessively overworked (which I'm assuming that's what he meant because in the next breath he mentions that despite this he's healthy).

But mostly the reason I linked his comment with his DV incident is that I'm not willing to give him much slack in things he says and does because of his transgressions.

I also disagree with how Joe Maddon used him in the postseason. I also don't give a horsefeathers anymore because the cubs won the world series

If anything, I'm way more annoyed at Maddon refusing to even somewhat acknowledge that he horsefeathers up and basically saying, "We won, didn't we?" when asked about it than I am at these comments.

these are funny responses given that the general theme in game 6 and game 7 was that maddon needed to be fired because of how he handled chapman and the end of those two games.

No kidding. If anything he handled that particular thing pretty well - disagreeing with his usage (which most of us did) but never complaining.

Even better would've been not doing so now, but better now that he's gone than during the Series.

what is the point of the manager acknowledging he screwed up in a world series win?

a normal honest answer is to not admit you horsefeathers up in the world series win

he's a smart guy. there's no way he doesn't know he made some questionable, to put it politely, calls in the heat of the moment. just admit it rather than defending the indefensible. and it was even reinforced with a negative outcome when game 7 was almost blown as a direct result.

Maddon admitted to getting caught off guard with Rizzo's homer. That's as close to an apology as we'll get.

the plan was to ride chapman hard in the playoffs and let him walk. They implemented that plan and won the world series.

he totally screwed the pooch in the moment but it does not matter and there's no point rehashing it now.

it's time to talk 2017 baby

it's not even about an apology. and it's not a big deal to me...just saying i'd have preferred he at least acknowledged that what he did was questionable instead of basically trying to mic drop it. i'm used to him being a reasonable and honest guy who makes good well-spoken and reasoned arguments for stuff even when i disagree with him. in this case it just irked me a bit. did you really need to bring him in with that lead?

even the hendricks thing, i'm fine with. it's not like he can see the TV angles from the dugout to know that he was getting screwed by the ump. and i'm fine with bringing in lester. what happened there was a huge fluke. but the chapman stuff was so bad.

I hope Maddon overused him so much that his arm falls off this season.
