Keith Law Tweeted that he didn’t think Harper would get a 400M contract. I don’t know if he was being facetious, though.

Someone tweeted at him about the idea of "Bruce" Harper getting a $400 million deal, so he was just mocking that.

Thanks. I didn't catch that spelling mistake, which should not be a shock to anyone here.

Lefties have feasted on Cole basically his whole career, last year alone they hit 18 home runs off him in less than 100 IP. Taking that package away from PNC's 20 foot RF fence and trading it in for Yankee stadium(and the DH) seems...suboptimal.

The Pirates got Cole because the Yankees couldn't sign him after taking him in the first round. I enjoy the idea of them trading good prospects for him years later and then him potentially tanking.

Ralph is all over it

9:45am: Jim Bowden of MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM now tweets that the Pirates and Yankees are close to a deal that would send Cole to New York. Torres is not a part of those talks, according to Bowden.

He hasn’t been good or overly healthy in a few years but wouldn’t have minded him on a minor league depth deal.

Padres also signed Chris Young. Getting the gang back together. Now awaiting Adrian Gonzalez and Jake Peavy signings.

The market for Eric Hosmer appears to be heating up, according to a report from Bob Nightengale of USA Today. He cites sources “close to Hosmer” that say the first baseman has received nine-figure offers from both the Padres and the Royals.

San Diego, per the report, has dangled a seven-year deal at a healthy $140MM price tag — about $20MM more than had previously been suggested. But the incumbent Kansas City club is said to have topped that bid with a contract that would include a $147MM guarantee. Notably, Nightengale says he was able to confirm the length of the proposed contract terms with both organizations.

I don’t get giving that much money to Hosmer. You could replicate the production by just signing Lind or Jaso and Carter (or even Bautista since he has INF experience) and doing a platoon for like 10-20% of the cost.

Seems like Scott Alexander does a very poor imitation of Zach Britton, lacking the velocity or command. More meat for the Cubs’ lineup in LA.

I like KC's return. I think Trevor Oaks is going to be a nice mid/back end starter.

Britton had a worse BB/9, K/BB and BB% than Alexander in 2017. Alexander throws about 2 mph softer than Britton but 94.5 mph isn't shabby from a lefty.
