Yeah. I really don't want Baez to be traded even though you can make a good case for it, especially if it's really lopsided in the Cubs' favor.

Maybe wait a year and then re-evaluate which of Baez, Russell or Happ is the best candidate to move in a trade.

Of course, we also have to take into account that we'd have to perhaps give up multiple other less good players to get Yelich. So it might be between two good players or four less good players. Not sure how the WAR looks on that one yet, depending on who the less good players are.

Not saying it will happen, but the Cubs coming back from a 3-1 deficit to win the World Series does seem like the appropriate way to cap off this season and make the 30-for-30 even better.

Lorenzo Cain might not be as exciting as Christian Yelich, but can you imagine a defensive OF of Almora-Cain-Heyward?

I still wouldn't do it... But putting that outfield behind an IF of Bryzzo, Javy and Addy would have to be one of the all time great defensive alignments.

The part I don’t get about the rumor that it could be Cobb and Cain is what is Almora/Happ traded for then? A RP? A SP or 2 that’s like 2-4 years away (horsefeathers that, TINSTAAPP).

Why would they have to be traded? Almora continues to crush lefties and Happ takes on the Zobrist role.

Spending tens of millions on Cain when you haven't traded any of the position players seems like a real inefficient use of the money. I'd rather have Darvish + nothing than Cobb + Cain.

I'd be fine with either of these routes the rest of the offseason

Scenario 1:
Almora or Happ, Monty, Ademan, a pitching prospect(s), and Caritini for Cole and Rivero
Sign Cain
Sign Avila

Scenario 2:
Happ, Monty, Ademan, Alzolay, and Albertos for Yelich
Sign Yu
Sign Liriano to take Monty's swing role
Likely sign a cheaper backup C than Avila but still would like Avila the most if the contract worked

For Cain almost certainly you would think some other move is being coordinated with it that would have Almora/Happ going out (like for Cole like I mentioned above). Yelich, not so much just because I find it hard to believe Happ/Almora isn’t in a deal for him.

I really don't want to wind up with Cain, partly because meh, but mostly because I can't imagine we sign both Cain and Yu, and Yu is what I want more than anything...not even mentioning what signing Cain does to our chances of signing Harper.

Right. He means contingent on whether it’s yelich or Cain. One is a trade (ostensibly precluding a trade for a pitcher) the other is a signing (allowing for a trade for a pitcher).

I honestly doubt Levine said this. I think if this were true he would have put it on his Twitter or something. I Wouldn’t be surprised if the guy who claims he heard this got confused with something Levine mentioned.

Well, yes, the Cubs also need a pitcher.

He brought up Cain a few days ago.

Additional rule: you have to have one or the other. The only exception is you have an amazing board name. davell, I'm looking at you; put up a [expletive] avatar or something if your name only sounds like somebody tried say Dave as they lapsed into a coma.

Yeah I know he brought Cain up the other day but is another thing to say the Cubs actually have an offer on the table. With that said there is a poster on another board who heard the show as well and that póster said Levine mentioned the Cubs have 8 offers out between FA and trade proposals. Trade offers are for Archer / Colé / Yelich and Colome.

I haven't heard 8 offers, but he did say they have 6 offers on the table a couple days ago on the radio.

The names he keeps saying are Arrieta, Darvish, Cain, Yelich, Cobb, and Reed. I believe he's mentioned Cole a couple times too.
