And if true, Stanton being willing to accept a trade to the Midwest, but not to St. Louis, is horsefeathering delicious.

Sure, but I am becoming irrationally confident that Harper is a Cub in 2019.

I’m having a hard time not picturing Ohtani and Harper in the 2019 lineup.

This only really works if Ohtani picks the Cubs, and I'm not 1000% sold on it, but let's humor the idea.

Ohtani picks the Cubs
Happ, Alzolay, Zagunis, Tseng for Stanton
Sign 2 relievers, a backup C and backup OF(e.g. Reed, Gregerson, Rivera, Jackson)

Contreras/Bryant/Rizzo/Stanton/Schwarber/Russell/(Zobrist/Baez)/(Heyward/Almora)
Rivera, Baez, Almora, La Stella, Jackson

Quintana/Ohtani/Hendricks/Lester/Chatwood/Montgomery

Reed/Edwards/Strop/Gregerson/Wilson/(Grimm/AAA)

That's pretty good, and several million under the luxury tax.

Get Yelich in the Stanton trade (add Almora if needed or take on volquez to keep him if he’s included make Austin Jackson the FA OF) and that’s basically the Theo FU offseason

Oh man, if we could do Almora, Happ, Alzolay, de la Cruz and someone like Zagunis for Stanton, Yelich and Volquez I'd do cartwheels. That contract probably would bite us and I wouldn't want it to hinder us from getting Harper.

For all we know, this could be posturing/his agent doing this just to make all teams involved sweat a little bit.

Stanton and Harper in the corners were in our pitch to Ohtani, weren’t they?

It would, and it absolutely would.

It's fun to dream on, but Stanton and Harper are an either-or proposition, for any team.

And if we're choosing, I choose Harper all day.

He forgot to ask for written explanations from all 30 MLB teams in English and Spanish on how he would fit into each organization and what makes the team attractive, and THEN narrow it down to the 4 teams he wanted to go to all along.

Get on that high horse with Ohtani.

This calls for a 3 way deal. As long as Stanton gets to his desired destination, a 3 way might work best.

I love that [insert player] "doesn't want to be the guy" is the refrain of the spurned cards fan.
"Ooh, look at you, mister, 'I want to be a part of a competitive team.' A REAL ballplayer would jump at the opportunity to headline a roster full of trash."

That hand drawn Swastika could have been drawn on the back of that guy's neck while he was passed out drunk.

maybe we don't "play in a desirable city." maybe we don't "win a lot of games." maybe our fans are "incredibly racist." and i guess we don't "have a chance in the division for the next ten years." maybe we do "condone drinking and driving and white-collar crime."

Maybe Stanton just feels he's lost enough teammates to drinking and driving already.
