I know it's been said over and over but this really does feel like the week-10 days where a bunch of moves happen.

Or maybe no free agent ever signs a contract again. Best to get our fill of Bryce Harper this year before he's out of baseball or in Japan.

It got retweeted in my timeline and it's one of the Barstool guys (I know) who has broken Yankees stuff before and he says he's hearing Ellsbury to the Brewers is coming. You would think that clears the way for the Yankees to go get Darvish. Would also make sense why the Brewers have sudden interest in Darvish to push the Yankees to give up a better prospect (and/or eat some or more of Ellsbury deal) and also jive with the guy on the Brewer message board saying there's a sequence of moves lined up for them based on one happening first (Ellsbury needs to waive his NTC).

Hmm, but why would they have any interest at all in Ellsbury? He’ll be a 35-year-old CF in September, which doesn’t make sense for an add on a rebuilding team (at least that’s how they should be viewing themselves), and he’s been super blah the last 3 years anyway.

I’d view him as a 1-1.5 WAR CF and one with no future on my team...but he’s signed through 2020 (team option and $5 million buyout in 2021). If I were the Brewers, he’d better be super cheap, and ideally bringing a prospect back on top of that. Say he were a free agent... anything over like 2 years, $16 million would seem like an overpay.

And why on earth would Ellsbury waive his NTC to go to horsefeathers Milwaukee?

He would rather start on a mediocre/garbage team than be a 5th Outfielder / pitch runner?

Is there something to be said for the Brewers trying to keep Darvish from signing with the Cubs for any kind of reasonable contract?

Well also according to the Barstool guys, Darvish has been a Cub for a month so we're good there.

No idea why I think this, but I bet that’s a 5-year, $100 million offer.

Not saying it will happen, but the Cubs coming back from a 3-1 deficit to win the World Series does seem like the appropriate way to cap off this season and make the 30-for-30 even better.

wow looks like Stearns leaked those Ellsbury/Darvish rumors to scare the cubs into signing a 35-year old replacement level catcher. he continues to play chess while Theo plays checkers.

The Cubs’ transaction list under Epstein and Hoyer reads like a work of fiction, a wish-fulfillment list composed in hindsight.

There's some stuff in this article about their relationship and this offseason....
Chris Gimenez, who grew close with Darvish as his personal catcher with the Rangers for parts of two seasons (3.29 earned-run average in 12 starts), has recently spent two separate phone conversations sating Darvish’s curiosity “about everything Minnesota has to offer.”“I know he was very interested in the vision (the front office) had,” said Gimenez, who still hopes to re-sign with the Twins after taking his free agency last month. “He actually called me right over Thanksgiving break and asked me about the organization. Obviously, he has a very good familiarity with Thad, but he was asking about the coaching staff, the players, the types of rules.”

Rules?

“In Texas we had a ton of rules, (and) he was not necessarily a fan of some of them,” Gimenez said Tuesday by phone from his home in Nevada.

Those included Kangaroo Court clubhouse fines for not being early enough for daily team stretch on the field, wearing footwear with shoelaces on road trips or wearing anything on the road that failed to meet third baseman Adrian Beltre’s exacting standards.

“I told (Darvish) pretty much the only rule we have (with the Twins) is no dress shoes on the road,” Gimenez said. “He said, ‘What if I want to wear dress shoes on the road?’ I said, ‘You’re Yu Darvish. You can do whatever the hell you want.’ ”

Our coach is running a jag on 3 bottles of wine half the time, we have wild animals and magicians show up pre-game and we have techno dance parties after games, Yu don't need to worry about rules with us.

Gimenez was also the Twins' designated "Position Player who pitches in blowouts" so this is about as fun as a minor league deal to a catcher can be.

The Brewer message board guy who has sources now says the Brewers will not be getting Darvish after saying earlier today they were making a big push and wanted a decision soon in order to make other moves if he decided on going elsewhere.....
