I’d pay for Caritini’s travel expenses to Baltimore if he’s the only piece it takes for Britton

Breaking News: Jim Duquette is still a moron.

https://www.mlb.com/news/trade-deadline ... =282421090

Amongst other stupidities here, he has Donaldson going to the Cubs for Alzolay and Lange.

So the Cubs, who have one of the top offenses in baseball, are going to give up their top prospect for an injured, unnecessary, rental... can the Cards please hire Duquette after they fire Mo? That would be excellent.

Dodgers made a huge trade:

The Dodgers have acquired right-handers Dylan Floro and Zach Neal from the Reds, as per a team press release. Los Angeles will also receive some international bonus pool space from Cincinnati in the trade. The Reds will receive minor league right-handers Aneurys Zabala and James Marinan in return.

The Cubs will trade Maples for a Tommy Hunter-type from a lousy team.

This seems like an odd trade

The Rangers have acquired outfielder Austin Jackson, reliever Cory Gearrin and right-hander Jason Bahr from the Giants in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations, according to Texas’ executive vice president of communications, John Blake. To clear room on their 40-man roster, the Rangers moved relievers Matt Bush and Tony Barnette to the 60-day disabled list.

Jackson is having a bad year but is still useful and cheap. Gearrin is a useful middle reliever. Bahr was the Giants' 5th rounder last year and has some good numbers in the minors thus far.

I’ve never been a huge JA Happ fan, but I’m kinda into this, assuming the cost isn’t too high.

If it keeps us from watching another eye-bleeding start by Chatwood, I'm for it as well.

I would like to think Theo has something big up his sleeve, bigger than Happ. Something cool and entertaining like Almora for Jonathan Gray

I saw somewhere this morning that the Cubs had scouts at Eovaldi's latest start. My first thought was, "ew." However, he's actually been really good this year coming off surgery.

Just what the Rockies need-another outfielder.

They could use a good one, though.

here are some likely playoff teams that would probably want a player they think is good

Definitely down for a trade for JA Happ. It shouldn't require that much and I'm not sure a better starter will become available. I liked the signing, but we made a mistake... Chatwood needs to be placed on the 10-day/60-day DL for "idiopathic walkitis". He's a lost cause and can't be fixed this season.

Justine Wilson of 2017 seems to have gone back (at least modestly) to 2018 Justin Wilson. Maybe there's hope for Chatsuck.

Rosenthal:

Wanted (maybe): another David Ross
The Chicago Cubs have held internal discussions about acquiring a veteran leader such as the Orioles’ Adam Jones or Toronto Blue Jays’ Curtis Granderson and also reached out to other clubs about the possibility, sources tell me and The Athletic’s Jayson Stark.

For several reasons, the idea is unlikely to come to fruition before July 31, if at all.

Cubs officials are unsure whether bringing in such a veteran at mid-season would create enough of an impact. The team also has carried 13 pitchers for much of the season, leaving little room for another position player. Tommy La Stella, the Cubs’ only true bench player, leads the majors with 52 plate appearances as a pinch-hitter, and is batting .304 with a .742 OPS in that role.

Thus, the only way for the Cubs to squeeze in a Jones or Granderson would be to trade one of their young outfielders — Albert Almora Jr, Kyle Schwarber or Ian Happ. Such a move would make sense only if it brought the Cubs a top starting pitcher with multiple years of club control. And even then, the Cubs might resist.

A trade for a Jones-Granderson type might be more suitable on Aug. 31, the deadline for teams to set their postseason rosters. The fit would be easier then, with regular-season rosters expanding from 25 to 40 the next day.

Doesn’t make sense from a roster standpoint. Wouldn’t be shocked if Adam Jones didn’t make sense from a luxury tax standpoint too.
