That was Bryant and he already relapsed.

He's done 1, if not 2, sim games in the last weekish.

There was a July 15 article claiming he hoped to do a minor league rehab starting in one week (which would have been a week ago).

He did a sim game a week after that article, July 22 and was supposedly set to do another July 26. But 6 days later this article game out.
https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/cubs/ ... back-mound

“He threw on the side the other day,” Joe Maddon said. “I didn't get anything negative. I didn't get to watch it because I was kind of busy, but nobody said anything bad about it. It ended up not being a sim game, that's all I know. But there was nothing, not like he's hurting, I didn't get any of that.”
........

“His next step will be a sim game, it sounds like,” Theo Epstein said. “Trying to pick the right day as we figure out his timing and go off how he's feeling too.”

The natural progression after a sim game would be sending him out on a rehab start, but the Cubs aren't pushing it. They're going to let Smyly take his time to get back to the mound.

“I mean, it'll depend on how he's feeling and how it goes,” said Epstein. “We don't want to rush into a rehab assignment because then you start the clock, and there's no rush. We'll make sure he's really good and ready.”

So he's not close.

I believe there's a clause in the CBA that says TJ guys can be on a rehab assignment for up to 30 days, so I'd imagine the plan is to bring him back right when rosters expand. Any sooner and it either says great things about his progress or terrible things about faith in our current pitchers.

If he’s throwing well and comes back say August 17th or whatever I don’t know if it says terrible things about our current pitchers. He’d be replacing Duensing or Chatwood most likely and they suck and Duensing can be cut or either could be phantomed DL’d

Tyson Ross to the Cards, apparently.

Oh, and Lyles to the Brewers.

They got claimed on waivers and the Padres were like, "Sure take them...we don't care" lol.

I guess they're still salty about Rizzo, just giving pitchers to Cubs' competitors.

Would be awesome if the As won the pennant after everyone spent all year talking about the Yankees, Red Sox and Astros

Hoskins and Santana at the corners sounds good.

Odd trade. They get a good bench bat but give up an interesting young arm. Bour has nowhere to play really. Santana at first, Franco at 3rd, Hoskins and Nick Williams on the corners. Certainly gives them good insurance/offense off the bench though.

They also DFA'd Jake Thompson and I wouldn't mind grabbing him. Was a really good prospect fairly recently.

Apparently TB also got a PTBNL and that player is Shane Baz, the Pirates #4 prospect and 1st round selection from the 2017 draft.

If Glasnow keeps pitching like he has since arriving in Tampa. then yes they got a steal. I don't know what elixir they gave him, but they're stretching him out over three starts and his numbers look like this:

12 IP 3 ER 20:3 K:BB 2.25 ERA 2.74 FIP 0.750 WHIP 15 K/9 2.3 BB/9

Dude was like Chatwood light before the trade

This is a very very fringe rumor that will probably be shot down in like 2 seconds but there are people on twitter discussing Daniel Murphy and the Cubs. Joel Sherman did report a few mins ago that a team that was not the Yankees claimed Murphy but that’s it for legitimate news sources and obviously the Cubs were not mentioned.

I’m only mentioning this because a) I’m bored and b) the people saying there is a trade happening have like 4-5k followers so it’s not just some random fake twitter account. Do what you want with the “info”

If he was claimed by the Cubs then the Nationals would immediately pull him back. We aren't getting someone that good, but I do know the Cubs are looking.

Seems like a fake rumor to me.

It makes sense even if Russell is 100 percent healthy. Addison Russell sucks. Put Baez at SS and Murphy at 2B and it helps an offense that slumps way too often. Then put Russell in for defense later in games.

Not saying it will happen, but the Cubs coming back from a 3-1 deficit to win the World Series does seem like the appropriate way to cap off this season and make the 30-for-30 even better.
