We did a thing. Rosenthal says we signed Brad Brach.

I like Brach. Solid setup guy. Mid-3's FIP the last 2 years, strikes out about a batter per inning, has some experience closing.

seems like he walks quite a few guys, so he'll be perfect to come in to replace Chatwood after he walks the bases loaded in long relief

33 in april and his bb and k are both quickly trending in the wrong directions, but i guess that’s the sort of guy the cubs can afford.

Kintzler, Duensing, Brach, and about 20% of the time Edwards - we're gonna have a lot of options for guys to come in and blow open the game.

Not Earth shattering but I like it. He's been decent for a few years now. It's a relatively small contract. Sure.

hopefully he goes "brach" to the future and finds the fountain of youth and rejuvenates his career!

Hey, Brach's is an Illinois company, so maybe this'll be a sweet de-AW, horsefeathers IT.

Brach's success seems very closely tied to his velocity, and his velocity came back after a dip to start the year so I think he's as good a middle reliever bet as anyone. Morrow/Edwards/Strop/Cishek/Montgomery/Brach is very good depth, and a roll of the dice on health at the top end.

I bet he sucks and we'll be like "whatever it was good value and how would we know he would suck he had a good (some number you can find on his fangraphs page)."

Just want to point out that although this isn't the official thread, this should be the title of the official thread.

This is exactly like the Kintzler trade. He's fine, this helps, but it's a real "way to aim for the middle" kind of move.

I'm also annoyed that it looks like we're tied to him next year if he sucks. Glad the FO learned nothing from Duensing and Kintzler. The whole horsefeathering point of playing in this end of the reliever pool is to not tie up money going forward. If you can't do that with Brach you just keep going down the list until you find someone who's down for a 1 year deal.

can you at least stick to being insufferable about the topic at hand and not hypothetical future conversations too
