This is so disappointing, and Chris Myers... ugh. I don't even know what to say. No way the Cubs should have let this happen.

Seriously, how long before JD is pushed out and it is Myers and Dempster?

Yeah, I imagine Len is well enough in demand that he doesn't need to put up with what this franchise has become. But damn this hurts.

Also, I would assume the Sox tv guy who name escapes me is probably moving on after 2021 to a national job so maybe Len is only doing radio next year

Benetti. Good point, he already does a lot of work for ESPN I believe.

I saw a comment elsewhere that he was unhappy with the three man booth? True or not, Marquee’s attempts to be clever have all been awful

I like that the best they could come up with is Len always wanted to do radio, as if he’s never had that opportunity if he wanted it. This is clearly Sinclair wanting an empty suit in Meyers and Len wanting nothing to do with them.

Lol who do you think that messaging is for? Len took a lower profile job that almost certainly pays less with one of the worst organizations in baseball. Saying the reason was to follow a particular passion is throwing him a bone vs “Len said he didn’t want to work on any Marquee/Cubs programming in the offseason and didn’t want to do the convention” or whatever the actual reason is.

We could of course just have one of the 100 reporters who follows the Cubs get to the bottom of why he’s not with the Cubs but sports journalism isn’t exactly hard hitting. Instead we get Sharma printing a press release...

Yes, there has to have been a poor fit for Len at Marquee. That is the only way this makes sense. Radio is a step-down. Going from the Cubs to the Sox is a bigger step-down. Whether it has to do with an increased role with Fox or the stupidity of the three-man booth and dressing up in big boy clothes on Marquee or a mix of all of that, we will never know.

If Len decided to leave the Cubs because he didn’t want to occasionally share the broadcast booth with a third person or because he didn’t want to wear a suit then he’s a child. I sincerely hope that’s not the reason.

100 percent. And people aren't going to pry into finding out the reasons, because they know the reasons and respect Len as a friend and/or colleague to leave it alone.

This might be the worst look yet for the Cubs, worse even than non-tendering decisions or being cheap. Len's decision felt more like a culture move, and that's really not good.

Not saying it will happen, but the Cubs coming back from a 3-1 deficit to win the World Series does seem like the appropriate way to cap off this season and make the 30-for-30 even better.

Having trouble envisioning myself going out of my way to get Marquee this season. I had to go from Youtube TV to Hulu Live for a while this season and hated it. Really not sure it's gonna be worth the hassle this year.

I have Marquee, but I may very well just use the MLB.tv Roku app this year with the radio feed for audio.

this is dumb as horsefeathers

why the hell is he obligated to put up with dumb horsefeathers he doesn't like at work if he doesn't have to? that makes him a child? FOH

and i'm pretty sure he never complained about the suits publicly (and even sorta did the opposite). if he had a problem with it, he has every right to look elsewhere and it's none of your damn business why he was or wasn't happy with his work environment.

The more I sit on this the more the Chris Myers part bugs me. Like if Len wanted to leave because he's bored, hates Sinclair, wants a job that lets him do more national games, or whatever, I'm okay with that. He put in 15 great years here, and I don't hate having him leave while he's still on top.

Chris Myers though is just so blah as a replacement. He, along with Kenny Albert, are the quintessential B Team PBP guys in my head. I really hope that he's just a placeholder, and that they're going to go get someone better, someone with an actual personality, ASAP. Like maybe Boog Sciambi would like to be "the guy" here rather than the #2 guy at ESPN? Or even better, go get the someone younger like Len was when they got him.

If anything it makes him the model worker we should all emulate. He didn't need to kowtow to dumb corporate nonsense and gets to leave on his own terms. Every worker should strive to be able to leave a job that has nonsensical demands. First among them a requirement to wear a suit for a job that in no way shape or form requires a suit.

More than just the blandness I think Myers is the quintessential "stick to sports" hire. He screams somebody that thinks all lives matter - especially the blue ones, that real hard working americans don't want to hear people complain about the government and that the real problem with this country is social justice warriors. I don't think you can spend two decades working for Fox with any other attitude. Hell, he may have chosen to leave Fox to join Sinclair because of how liberal his old home has become.

and i'm pretty sure he never complained about the suits publicly (and even sorta did the opposite). if he had a problem with it, he has every right to look elsewhere and it's none of your damn business why he was or wasn't happy with his work environment.

I mean, it’s not anyone on this board’s business who the Cubs employ, hire, or fire, but yes, Len disrupting his career trajectory (and likely income!) over sharing airtime or his employer’s dress code would be immature and childish.

The dude seems like a great guy and he can do whatever he want: I hope that he’s happy! But if that was the reason he probably wasn’t in it for the long haul anyway.

What the horsefeathers kind of nonsensical corporate apologia is this nonsense?
