horsefeathers, I really don't like that at all. horsefeathers.

What? Are you upset that he didn't immediately cancel the meetings with those other teams after the Cubs' presentation lol?

If I had to guess he’s upset the Padres get the last pitch since there was that report of the respect or whatever he has for all the guys who work for them he’s played for before and he felt it would be disrespectful or hard to let those guys down by picking a different team. That’s my only guess. But Theo’s got this.

Obviously, no one knows a damn thing about what's gone on in his meetings or if there are actually favorites or not. So, looking at this from a normal sales perspective may very well be incorrect. But, its second nature for me and my initial thought is this.....

Going 3 meetings on Monday, 3 meetings on Tuesday, then leaving Wednesday JUST for the Padres, where there's a unique history already.....Gives me an impression things are weighted in their favor.

I've been in that type of spot before. I knew the other meetings were basically whack off meetings and as long as I didn't bomb, I got the business.

Again, everything's independent, very well could mean nothing, in regards to this.

Additional rule: you have to have one or the other. The only exception is you have an amazing board name. davell, I'm looking at you; put up a [expletive] avatar or something if your name only sounds like somebody tried say Dave as they lapsed into a coma.

The Bulls had the last pitch to LeBron on 2010 and we know how that turned out.

So we need to call up Sabean and merge with the Giants.

i don't think there's anything more to it than there were 7 teams and they could fit 3 in per day and had one left over.

i mean, if he picks the horsefeathering padres over the cubs or dodgers, then go weirdo, i guess.

With the Padres tomorrow (and likely either no or only a few teams to do follow up meetings/trips after) hopefully this is all over by the weekend, for better or for worse.

Derwood would have to add this:

Age 47: get a puppy
Age 55: house train puppy

this is the third.

Heyman had an article on it that was mostly nonsense, but had a few good points.

1. Because the Padres are so terrible, they can most afford to give him a shot at being a legit two-way guy this year.

2. The Padres farm is pretty great, and they have no money on the books, so with Ohtani in the fold they actually look very promising for 2019 on. And Ohtani would be getting in on the ground floor of that.

3. He'd get to be 'THE guy.' (Though he's probably the best player on the Rangers or Mariners as well?)

I don't know if I buy those reasons as being worth choosing the Padres, but they're something.

I also enjoyed this one:

If he wants a team with the most modern facilities/best ballpark

1. Giants
2. All the other ballparks are trash by comparison, especially Dodger Stadium, which is built into the side of a huge mountain that makes you walk up 30 flights of stairs to get to the upper deck from the parking lot, not that he would be going to the upper deck a lot, but seriously, it’s obnoxious, install a zip line or something

Though it’s possible that I’m biased.

If I had to choose between Otani and getting Grant Brisbee on a Cubs beat, I'd take Brisbee.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned the travel time yet, but it comes up in this article. Seattle travels almost twice as many miles as the Cubs do in a given season. I'm sure Theo is aware of it.

well, it has been, but in a far less relevant way (the two flights to and from japan, one of which - spring - is the same for all the teams he picked) than the one he's talking about.

That article is awesome, mainly because now I'm picturing Ohtani starting in left, coming in to throw gas in the 8th and staying in to bat/field in the 9th.
