Preller: I've got some good news and bad news.
Ohtani: *nods*
Preller: Our park is huge, you'll never give up a home run here.
Ohtani: Wonderful.
Preller: But on the flipside you'll never hit one either.

Padres are under the restrictions, too.

Padres are restricted too.

Could be the Angels, collecting pool space for their recent Braves free agent spree.

Doesn’t that come out of next years pool?

The Cubs’ transaction list under Epstein and Hoyer reads like a work of fiction, a wish-fulfillment list composed in hindsight.

That's what has been assumed, yes.

They clearly heard we got him in the bag and this is a last attempt to woo him with more money

I'm surprised 2 teams traded for slot money back to back. Wonder if there's word that he wants more money, or if they're both desperate?

Seems like a desperate, last ditch, effort to me with 2 teams doing it back to back where they feel they don’t have an edge and they feel this moves a needle. Or else I guess it could likely mean nothing and maybe they are doing it for Braves guys or something else.

Giants, Cubs, Padres, Dodgers are all in the penalty and capped at $300k

even if he doesn’t really care about money, it never especially made sense that he’d take ten percent of what he could get elsewhere today. these trades feel like the final confirmation that we never had a shot.

it's a one time signing bonus. a difference of 2.7 M or whatever can easily be recuped/washed out in endorsements, even in baseball.

you really think he's going to base his decision on 2.7M when he's passing up 100+M just bc he can't wait? not to mention the fact that he included all those teams in the penalty and eliminated teams that had big pools (when he didn't need to eliminate anyone)

either way, what an odd choice in teams if bowden actually knows anything:

By picking either the Mariners or Padres you just know this kid is serious about those 3 World Series he plans on winning
