Ever browsed the Target clearence isle and found a once high ticket item for $9.99 and you buy it out of principle? Here's to bargain shopping.

Daniel Schlereth, 26. 26th pick of the 2008 Draft. Minor league career 73/149 BB/K in 110IP, mostly as a reliever

Mike Pelfrey, 28. 9th pick of the 2005 Draft 2006 #36 prospect. 2007 #20 prospect

Manny Parra, 30. Former highly regarded Brewer's pitching prospect. Got his ass kicked on live televison by Prince Fielder for hitting the showers too early.

Ryan Sweeney, 32. 27 Former top prospect. Has yet to develope power.

Jair Jurrjens, 26. We all know Jurrjen's story. Low risk alternative to Rick Porcello.

Pete Moylan, 33. Once very effective sidewinding reliever. Suffered some sort of injury.

More to come

I kind of don't hate Sweeney as a backup outfielder type. But otherwise, that's a bad list.

Rather have Jurrjens for nothing than Porcello for anything breathing.

I'd rather have Ian Stewart back for 1/$10 million than Jurrjens.

Porcello accumulated more fWAR this year than Jurrjens has in the past 3 years combined. Porcello is also 3 years younger and hasn't been riddled with injury problems.

For a LH OF platoon bat, Sweeney isn't too bad. Wish he had more than just 1 year to FA though.

Hannahan got NT'd. Granted, he's [expletive], but he's slightly less [expletive] than most other FA options.

Rafael Perez got NT'd as well. Looks like he was on the DL all yea with a left latissiumus dorsi muscle strain. Not sure how serious that is, but he's been a solid reliever for the Indians for all but one of his seasons, and been pretty good the last two. If that injury is one that is able to be recovered from well, then we could use a solid bullpen guy

What's wrong with Daniel Schlereth? I was under the impression he was kinda intriguing.

Shoulder issues. He had shoulder tendinitis and it kept him out all of last season before rehabbing in the minors toward the end at Single-A

Ah, thanks. Unless it's really damaged, I'd have some interest in Schlereth as a buy-low option. Might as well in the position we've put ourselves.

I think the Cubs should be looking at any/every low risk-high reward bullpen candidate at this point.

Mr. "Take a flyer" himself starts a thread about non-tenders. All is right with the world.

Sorry if I'd rather fill the spring training roster with low risk/any type of reward players than AAAA flotsam.

We should pretty much buy every lottery ticket type of player we can. If things go south for us next year (and they probably will) you trade the ones that pan out for prospects. But hey, never underestimate the ability of Dusty Baker to ruin a ballclub. If he throws Chapman for 150 pitches in a game and his arm falls off all bets are off. Whatever pile of crap wins the Central next year would probably be 4th at best in the AL East but that's baseball for ya.

Why are you mentioning these players' prospect status'? All of them have lengthy MLB track records.

We just claimed him off waivers from Colorado at the beginning of November

I hope we keep Chapman and Putnam somehow. But moving them off the 40 man gives us solid flexibility.

As bad as he is defensively, he instantly becomes an excellent 3B option for us, with who's available, if we can't deal for Chisenhall.
