I wonder what type of impact this will have on the rest of the league. The Rangers seemed to want to get Greinke and deal for a bat to replace Hamilton. Do they step up and keep Greinke, and deal for an arm? Or do they decide to go with what's in-house on the arm side? Or do they go a guy like Sanchez and still try to trade for a bat? If I'm them, the last route is probably the way I go, as I'm not sure what elite arm they can pry without using Profar.

This sure gives the Dodgers a good one-twp punch in the rotation A healthy Billingsley would give them a stacked rotation.

Angels look like they will stand pat ... and that seems to be a very spotty rotation to go with a spotty lineup.

Has any team in the history of baseball added anywhere near as much salary as the Dodgers have in the last 6 months?

Dodgers plan to go after Annibal AFTER signing Greinke.

Unless I'm mistaken (and I may be) would this not push them past the the Yankee's in terms of payroll? I remember reading somewhere that LAD's projected (pre Grienke) payroll was about $192 million.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Dodgers and free agent right-hander Zack Greinke have reached agreement on a six-year, $147 million contract.
It's only pending a physical. The $24.5 million average annual value of Greinke's new deal is the richest any pitcher has ever received. The Dodgers' 2013 payroll now sits over $225 million, making it the highest in MLB history. Greinke will slot in as the No. 2 starter in Los Angeles, behind staff ace Clayton Kerhsaw.

A wee bit more than $192 million. And they still might go after Sanchez, and will need to address extending Kershaw at some point as well

They haven't come to terms with Ryu yet either.

The Dodgers are making me feel like Charlie Buckets peering on through the window as Veruca Salt has daddy's workers rip open thousands of Wonka bars for no other reason than that they can: as much as I want them to fall on their face, part of me wishes it were us.

I'm not going to lie, I really kind of hate baseball right now. Incredibly stupid that the Dodgers payroll is now 200 million ahead of the Marlins and 55 million ahead of the Yankees.

Using Greinke's AAV as his 2013 salary, the Dodgers will pay just under 90 million to 7 starting pitchers.

The Ricketts family likely isn't worth a tenth of what the Guggenheim Group is.

The AAV is fine, but six years is a lot for a pitcher.

And they're going after Sanchez? Yeesh. I can't imagine other teams will be thrilled with the Dodgers if they don't sign Ryu. They bid an obscene amount, then turn around and sign the two top domestic free agent pitchers (if Sanchez signs).

It wouldn't be that hard to modify Cubs gear into Dodgers gear. I say we defect.

So in 2008, who would have bet that within five years we'd have a payroll barely 1/3rd of the highest non-Yankees payroll in five years.

I'll bet in Dodgers land they don't even need crappy message boards filled with Kyles because everything is great.

There are plenty of folks here for you to disagree with.

I bet they have 10 times as many Kyles, they are all just handsomer and richer and more skin cancery than me.
