Would have been interesting to see the fans reactions to everything had they done this prior to the Cubs Convention. I'm sure the meatballs wouldn't have been kind to the management.

However, I'm fully supportive of this move.

I would think that Campana has a pretty decent chance of clearing waivers. Speedy OF that can't hit are readily available.

Plus at this point in the offseason with 40 man spots becoming more and more scarce, it would take something of real value in order for anyone to be willing to shuffle their roster.

Chicago Cubs ‏@Cubs
#Cubs today acquired minor league RHPs Erick Leal and Jesus Castillo from the #Dbacks for OF Tony Campana.

Both guys are 17 years old.

Paul Sullivan ‏@PWSullivan
Jed says both Dominican pitchers project to majors. Leal likely to pitch in minors this year.

David Kaplan ‏@thekapman
Hoyer on the Campana trade: "We got two projectable arms for Tony and we feel really good about these two guys.

Chicago Cubs ‏@Cubs
Leal, 17, went 6-2 w/ a 2.44 ERA, 70K, 11 BB in 14 appearances (12 starts, 70.0 IP) for the Dominican Summer League Dbacks last season.

Chicago Cubs ‏@Cubs
Castillo, 17, went 2-4 w/ a 5.40 ERA in 14 appearances (8 starts) for the same minor league club, striking out 41 and walking 17 in 46.2 IP.

Looks like Castillo was pretty unlucky last year.

Nice K/9 and K/BB on both guys.

Tony Campana is gritty, hard-nosed, and totally inept at the plate, so of course the Diamondbacks traded two minor leaguers to get him.

Wow, they really have completely lost their minds about the gritty, try hard guys in AZ haven't they? That's way more than I would have expected to get for Campana.

I'm liking this Leal guy, though it is DSL numbers. Either way, unless one of these guys back over Starlin Castro in the parking lot, chalk this trade up as a win.

Idiots on Facebook are freaking out about the deal. Some of them even invoked the name of Lou Brock. Jesus, we have some dumb fans.

This trade brought @facebookcubs on twitter to my attention. The insanity is hilarious.

Yeah, those are the fans that even if you show them the 6:1 K:BB ratio and the really low HR rate (yes, I realize it's only the DSL) won't care because "OMG, Campana is fast and we need to steal moar bases" while completely oblivious to the fact that you have to be on base regularly to be able to do that.

I was just coming on here to post that. There was one guy who posted to the meat heads freaking out saying something like if everyone's hatred towards the trade added 1 point to Campana's OPS he would still suck. lol

I am surprised we got anything back for Lou Brock.

@cwyers - Tony Campana is an object lesson in how hard it is to have an MLB career if you can't hit, pitch or catch.
