Parker’s a 6’3” HS LHP committed to Tennessee...could be signable. Four seam fastball and curveball, delivery that maybe suggests a long term reliever, wraps his wrist like Barry Zito did:

Seems most similar stuff wise to Brendon Little in the system

Kiley's chat has a ton of info. Including saying our top decision makers were at Densburg's last start. He pitched well. It was against Casas actually.

Yeah, a lot of good content in there. I didn't want to post everything draft related in the chat, but I'll post a few here:

A Boy Named Yu: Best guess for Cubs’ first pick?

Kiley McDaniel: They had their top two decision makers at the Denaburg vs. Casas playoff game and Denaburg was pretty good.

Dustin: What’s your long term outlook on Ryan Rolison in the upcoming draft? Four pitch lefty with good decent control and can hit mid 90’s. Seems similar to the Liberatore “whole is more than the sum of the parts”.

Kiley McDaniel: Except Rolison isn’t projectable, needs to change his delivery some, needs better fastball command and needs to throw his changeup more/curveball less and didn’t perform that well in the SEC. Could go as high as 11, but probably more in the 20’s

Tom: Saw a report that had Kyler Murray’s arm at a 40 grade. Certainly doesn’t look good for an aspiring QB. What’re the odds a team with a big bonus pool grabs him & how much $$$ would it take?

Kiley McDaniel: Sounds like $4-5 million, if there even is a number. Arm is below right now but the arm action can be cleaned up to be more baseball like and there’s some zip in there so it’ll likely be average to above eventually.

This mock just came out and I'm really happy with the selection for the Cubs in this one:

24. Chicago Cubs: Jordan Groshans, 3B, Magnolia (Texas) HS

Hearing bats over arms here, which most likely would mean high school, given the shortage of college bats for this range of the draft other than McCarthy.

I really like Groshans and I've mentioned him a few times. If we're taking a prep hitter this is one of the better ones IMO. Some prominent names are missing from this mock draft because it only goes to 30. Law claims some teams with multiple picks (Rays and Royals) after the first will be paying overslot for those guys.

Groshans would be sweet. At first I thought Kloffenstein was the guy to watch on that team but Groshan’s size and swing flashed immediately. I think there is enough athleticism to shoot for a jumbo 2B. I definitely feel HS over college this year early and there’s some of highest upside plays still available there (Rocker, Meadows, Casas).

Jonathan Mayo has the Cubs taking Anthony Seigler in today’s mock draft.

I like Groshans more than Seigler personally. But, I was more excited about Denaburg than either. If we do go hitting at 24 and its HS, I think I may like Edwards and Schnell as much or more than Groshans at this point too.

On the draft, the Cubs GM seemed to suggest a different strategy this season than years past. Because there’s not one area/position of tremendous depth and because they’ve done their time focussing on hitters (early in the rebuild) and pitchers (the past couple seasons), they’re “really not targeting any one area [position]” in 2018. With that said, Hoyer claims that “this is a really big draft,” for the Cubs because of the extra picks they have for losing Jake Arrieta and Wade Davis and they really don’t want to blow it.

Edwards certainly fits the whole “pile up switch hitters that play up the middle” thing they’ve been doing in the IFA world. I’d love for the Cubs to develop a stud switch hitter too and he’s got the potential for it.

Schnell looked solid to me earlier this spring but one or more of the FanGraphs guys seemed pretty meh on him.

I really wonder why everyone’s so quiet on Meadows. He’s commited to Clemson ffs, can’t be THAT hard a sign.

I know the regulars here are well aware of Ethan Hankins. He isn't nearly as highly rated now as he was going into this year or just going back a few months. I still really like him and hope with proper rest he can return to the dominant form he showed last year. He seems like a good kid with good makeup and Wrigley Field is his favorite ballpark to pitch at apparently.

Anyway, here is a video showing him at his most elite form. It's obvious how talented he is and why his fastball was the highest rated (in this draft) at one point. His pitching mechanics aren't ideal and it might lead to problems, but his stuff looks amazing here:

Thank goodness ... Just read Rosenthal's article in the Athletic regarding his situation. I wouldn't want that guy in my organization...

It's hard to get a feel for who would be willing to cross that line. Yankees are obviously a good guess, they played the Chapman situation as sleazily as possible (aside, i do wonder if part of the reason Theo paid so far through the nose for him was to avoid those kinds of optics). I feel like the Padres are a good guess, as Preller rarely seems to give any horsefeathers. The Rays maybe? Hard to alienate your fans if you don't have any.

Depending on how that Virginian congressional candidate does I could see the Nationals getting involved on this guy

He got the glitch fixed. He's got prep righty Lyon Richardson at 62 for us.

So, 2 college and 2 HS. 2 pitchers, 2 hitters. 1 college hitter and pitcher, same with HS.

Not sure I'm in love with the names involved, but I love the strategy and equal parts hitting and pitching.

That's a mock.

FYI, the guys who run the 247 Sports mock also said they thought Banfield was a Cubs target in the 2nd round.

Yeah, I don't love the players they have the Cubs selecting, but I like the overall strategy. Some names are missing even from this deep mock draft...

I don't see Griffin Roberts or Tim Cate. I don't see Brett Hansen or Dominic Pipkin. Some other players are missing, but I assume they have them going in the 3rd round.

I'm not sure about this, but if I'm deciding on a college lefty I'd prefer Shane McClanahan to Daniel Lynch.

A tough to sign Vandy commit, this one at a position of organizational strength...

Image

Understandable to link this org to a Vandy commited prep....They've drafted:

Rhett Weisman
Alonzo Jones
DJ Wilson
Dylan Cease

and also drafted eligible sophomore Kilichowski in 2016. 2017 is the only year no one with Vanderbilt ties was drafted by the Cubs under this FO, who came in with a reputation for drafting Vandy recruits.
