I know this guy isn't a Cubs draft pick, but I liked him coming out of HS and followed him in college. I can't believe he got this high a signing bonus after a somewhat disappointing year. Seems crazy and he's really going to have to hit since he'll provide little value on defense. He's also only 5'8" so not sure about how much power he'll have.

He is a really disciplined hitter though. I was hoping he might fall in the draft (later than the 3rd round) and that the Cubs might take a shot on him in the 5th round or later.

He got overslot money because he had leverage as a draft-eligible sophomore.

I like him as a prospect too.

Roederer and Riley Thompson have officially signed. No $$ listed yet, to my knowledge.

Well, shoot. I thought we'd have more money to play with for later rounds.

Hope he's worth it.

If Weber gets a bit under slot, it gives us basically our full 5% money to use on Thompson and Parker. And Thompson's signed. So, once we know his and Weber's money, we'll know exactly what we're throwing at Parker.

That’s slot for the 56th or so pick. The FO clearly loves this kid.

If Weber comes in at slot and you consider the 5% overage, they still have $266,355 to play with. For a pick after the 10th round, that means the bonus would actually be $391,355.

I'm always an optimist.... Think it's really exciting that the Cub scouts like the kid that much. Hopefully they'll be vindicated.

Still ~$265K (plus Weber) for 3rd-day. Could probably hit ~$400K and 4th-round slot on somebody (Parker?) if they wanted to focus it all.

Obviously depends on Weber and Thompson.

Maybe they'll just end up signing both Boyd and Parker, and Reindl, and end up signing everybody they picked in rounds 1-32. With the extra Mesa team, they've got more spots.

What do we know about Reindl? Does he have big-league potential, or would he just be an organizational filler even if he does sign?

If Weber signs for slot, they have $241,355 remaining to go over (that works out to a $366,355 for one player signed past the 10th round).

I'm guessing Weber may be a bit under, at least hope so. But, I'm guessing Thompson gets a decent amount and we don't have more than 250k or so, on the table for Parker. Which likely isn't enough for him.

11th-rder Riley Thompson signs w/@Cubs for $200k ($75k counts vs pool). Louisville RHP, redshirt sophomore, has reached 100 mph with fastball & can also flash plus curveball but also has TJ surgery in past & has been inconsistent. Intriguing arm. @MLBDraft

So 290Kish for Parker, barring more underslot becoming available from Weber. Not sure that’s enough. Here’s hoping.

Yep. $297,605. Basically $300k.

Again, this always happens when I try making a post on my phone...

Anyway, he should be making his debut pretty soon. He got a higher bonus than Brennen Davis. Not sure if that means the Cubs are higher on him or that it just took more to sign him away from going to school.

This stuff fascinates me. While I doubt they've offered Weber less than originally, to try as get both him and Parker, it's gone thru my mind. An extra 50-100k could be what it takes.

While 300k and 150K for college is likely less than what Parker 's number was, I guess I'll stay positive, because we've at least not had him say no yet.

Walked him on 4 straight. Then OSU had a beautiful suicide squeeze to get a run in. He just about hit Trevor Larnach on the first pitch and got pulled mid-batter. Ouch.

89-91 with the fastball. Slider had tons of movement but he wasn’t commanding it at all. Wasn’t commanding anything really.

Jim Callis wrote:Excluding Stanford shortstop Nico Hoerner, the No. 24 overall pick, supplemental second-rounder Cole Roederer is the most intriguing prospect from the Cubs' 2018 Draft. A California high schooler who signed for an over-slot $1.2 million, he has a solid power/speed combination and is a potential five-tool center fielder.

Brennen Davis, another prep outfielder, also bears watching. A former basketball star who landed a $1.1 million bonus in the second round, he has well above-average speed that makes him an asset on the bases as well as in center field, and he also has projectable power.

Who is the Cubs most interesting draft pick this year? Well if you exclude their first pick, it's either their second or third pick!

Sure feels like Weber might be a bit under-slot. His Dad gave an interview with the dailyprogress and said he'll sign. Made some comments about a slow process and all that ... but that he'll sign by the deadline. I'm reading between the lines here, but they have to have advisors that know the system and know college juniors after the 2nd round tend not to be overslots ... Assuming that's the case, and they were anticipating slot, then it feels like the Cubs are coming in under to squeeze him a bit.

Interesting. Guess the Cubs felt they could backburner him and try to squeeze in other guys first. Would've liked to see him get in early, as his season finished early, and get some work in, but it is what it is now.
