I'm guessing Mack Chambers is signing.

Weird to call that news at this point, since he supposedly agreed to terms weeks ago.

Yeah, but it isn't "official." The agreeing to terms weeks ago is how Callis knows it's going to be official today.

Just my guess.

It also helps if I remember that Chambers agreeing to go pro weeks ago probably IS news to most people.

What we all expected... Not a huge loss and maybe the wires got crossed between what the agent/player wanted and what the Cubs thought he would sign for.

I remember this well. Not fun times.

Wasn't a fan of the draft to begin with so wasting the 10th round pick makes it even more frustrating, hope they at least get Chambers signed.

The Reds got the 170th rated guy in the 12th round a SS from PR for 249K or 124 towards the pool. That would been our 4th ranked guy if we could have just signed a cheap SR signing in that 10th round and still had money left to give to Chambers if he doesn't get signed.

Hendrie and Chambers officially don’t sign.

Have to wonder if both of them changed their asking prices after the draft or just Hendrie that threw the wrench in the works.

Ethan Hankins, also with the Indians and the HS RHSP most on par with Rocker last year probably if he stayed healthy, has been pretty excellent this year coming back from the non-surgery shoulder injury

This is (I believe) the first time under Theo that the Cubs haven't signed all their draft picks inside the top 10 rounds. Also, the first unsigned 11th rounder as well. It probably was linked the more I think about it (going underslot on Hendrie to sign Chambers to a slight overslot deal).

The Cubs didn't sign RHP Trey Cobb in like the 12th or 13th round back in the 2016 draft I think. He was an okay pitcher (not a big time prospect) and went back to school.

Man, I forgot how weak this past draft class was on the positional side. Sigh.

TBF that's mitigated by:

- Signing 3 top 30 J2 bats
- Getting the top guy from a position group, otoh that group was HS catchers
- Drafting two pitchers that might move fast and make an impact, probably already have some trade value even

Thanks for sharing the full draft report card. I was surprised they gave best secondary pitch to Chris Clarke and called his CB "a potential 70-grade pitch". That's high praise. I went back and watched some video of Chris Clarke. I saw nothing I would rate as 'plus-plus' or anywhere close to that, but I saw a few good benders in this one:
