I'm putting him second behind Davis for now, Davis isn't a hard one either, but expect he'll be behind Hoerner, Davis, Marquez, Amaya, and maybe Hernandez

I'd put him behind Davis, Hoerner, Marquez and Amaya and would probably put him behind Hernandez when Christian signs. But those first four guys are generally (but not universally) considered top 100 prospects.

Ian 9:12 You said the angels pick was coming down to $... Was their pick underslot?
Eric A Longenhagen 9:13 Unsure, perhaps. Assume Howard isn't over or maybe wanted more money to play for someone other than Cubs?

Don't want to read too much into it but I assume he'll be around slot.

I am immensely pleased with this pick. Arguably, this might be the most intrigued and excited I've been about a pick in ... a long time, considering the state of the ML team, the state of the system. It's a high upside pick up the middle, in a draft where there will be pitching options later. I gotta think it's almost all college in the final four rounds, which is fine. We need some college guys that could fill some gaps in the system.

A bit disappointed, but not surprised, that Bitsko went off the board to the Rays. Oh well, UVA pitching was improving anyways.

I'm very curious on some college juniors that may go undrafted. I could imagine some guys deciding to take the chance, with so many uncertainties on next season.

Once Cleveland passed a super young guy, I thought for sure he was being shunted to a team with a big pool.

I really like Amaya, but I would slide Howard in ahead of him. It's a tough call, but Howard's ceiling seems high enough to jump past any polish that Amaya has on him.

I'd even agree with the idea that Howard ahead of Marquez might not be that unthinkable. I don't think I would just yet - Marquez's ceiling and his late-season run last year was strong enough.

The normal % of most prep kids picked in the 1st round, close to 0%.

0% chance he signs, or 0% chance he opts for college?

Well I still don’t think the Kjerstad pick made sense, but now with Bitsko off the table, I’m curious what picks 30 and 39 are going to look like for BAL.

Teams have a pretty good idea what players will sign for before they draft them in the early rounds. Usually it’s all but agreed to already.

The only real chance he doesn’t sign is if his medical comes back with some new info and they can’t renegotiate.

For the record - with the way 2020 has been going, I’m just happy not to see Luke Heimlich reappearing and inexplicably going #1 overall.

I'm clarifying, because I know jack and horsefeathers about the draft and signings and how it all works.

Jared Kelley is still on board. I could see guys like Cade Horton or Carson Montgomery in the mix - both have commitments that could require big money to buy out. There's a few others. I actually like the idea of Cade Horton to the Orioles with one of their picks. Tanner Witt's still on board. There's a lot of HS guys that could need big dollars to not go to college.

In Derwood’s defense, I responded incorrectly since he asked how likely he’d sign. It’s close to 100% likely.

Dwrwood, almost all these kids have a college commitment because a) they get recruited as underclassmen when they don’t know if they’ll be good enough to get drafted early and b) it’s yood leverage. Teams do their homework early, especially in the capped era. These days, you see maybe a couple of guys in the first 3 rounds not sign every year, and rarely see a first rounder not sign.

Yes and even with pick 30 going for Westburg there’s ways they can add a lot of overslot talent still. But it definitely felt like Bitsko was their plan A. I would guess they take at least two big swings in the rest of their draft.

Maybe I’m not in the majority, but I preferred Austin Wells to Kjerstad.
