I don't wanna look to next year already, but it's going to be really interesting trying to get everyone in this lineup. Baez deserves to be the every day 2B.

Also, someone interviewing Javy was talking about how a bunch of guys contributed. He then asked Javy about how balanced this team is. Javy said, "Yeah, I've been playing really great defense. And I've been hitting really good, too."

Yeah that was great. I was watching at the gym and I was like "man that's a close play" and my first thought was that Ross's throw was too poor to actually get Span. But Javy knew because he's Javy.

Can someone please link me to instances of racism from Bumgarner? Strickland's is well-known but googling Bumgarner racist just brings links to asinine comments from Dodger fans

bumgarner is notorious for jabbering with players who display any sort of joy, many, if not most of which have been the Latin players. It's not overt racism along the lines of a clevenger but combined with his hick persona it's really not hard to put 2 and 2 together.

For me it's when I ask them if they love Bumgarner and they'll respond with "yes because he's a fierce competitor" then I'll point out the racism of the fans which is what reeeeeally riles them up. Also, it hasn't just been Latin players, he shouted at Fowler and Heyward during a Spring Training game. He's a jackass.

Is Strickland's well-known? Seems like he just heard Sal Perez speaking Spanish and said "get in the dugout, boy." Is the implication that he wouldn't have said "boy" to a white player? Because he seems like the type of redneck who would say that a lot.

 

Probably closer to MadBum than me, but whatever.

While I was on FG for that amazing "Week of Javy" article I checked out other stuff and man Dave Cameron has to get with the times.

 

Eddy: Looks like Javy Baez is the front runner in annual “Damn, I didn’t know this guy was this good” contest thanks to national postseason exposure. No way this guy gets regular AB next season, right?

 

Dave Cameron: Well, I think the Cubs are in a bit of a pickle with Baez, albeit the nice kind of pickle you want to have. He’s this year’s Schwarber, basically. It’s not entirely clear where he fits in next year’s line-up, but the team may be reticent to trade him and watch him turn into a high level player elsewhere.

 

Dave Cameron: So, yeah, he probably sticks around as a 400 AB guy, playing all over the field and providing depth until Zobrist is ready to hand over the 2B job in a few years.

 

Dan: Baez gets more playing time by moving Zobrist and Kris to OF more regularly and having Baez play even MORE of an INF rover

 

Dave Cameron: Except they keep saying they’re going to play Schwarber in LF next year, and they’ll still have Heyward/Soler around. Not going to be easy to just move Zobrist/Bryant to OF.

 

He needs to read the Week of Javy article again. How are the Cubs going to find ABs for Javy with players like Jorge Soler around!?! Probably best to just wait a few years until Zobrist is ready to give up the 2B job.

 

Nope. Zobrist can play second on the days Javy moves over to cover another spot, but Javy'll be on the Cubs pulling in 550+ PAs (assuming his health) and guys will get rested or traded to make it happen. If Schwarber comes back healthy, trade Soler, put Zo in the outfield 60-70% and Almora is your 4th/5th OF.

 

The above is only one set of potential outcomes but that's where I'm planting my flag. You don't worry about how you're going to fit Addy or Lindor in, and my opinion is that you think of Baez in the same way.

 

 

Also, Dave Cameron is dumb so I'm only using his chat as a prop.

 

Dave Cameron: I would have traded Schwarber to get Miller, but the Cubs like Schwarber more than I do.
