and david, why does your photo look like it was taken with a bell and howell camera bought at sears in 1967?

That was the most widely circulated preview of what it'd look like. That sketch made it difficult to understand how the finished product would look relative to the rest of the OF wall.

it's like a painting where if you isolate one part of it, it totally looks like something, but when you zoom out it's all "wait, wtf?"

I trust in the Ricketts' to make Wrigley a pretty kickass place to be. They seem like they're going to be really great owners of this franchise.

Getting good players would help.

LaHair and Stewart will find that section 50 times this year, book it!

Let's hope they are playing at the time.

On the cusp of Opening Day, Mayor Rahm Emanuel said today that he is in the final stages of talks with Chicago Cubs owners regarding renovations at Wrigley Field.

“I’ll represent the taxpayers in whatever we do to enhance the value at Wrigley Field,” Emanuel said. “I will not put my money in their field so they can take their money and invest around the field.”

More outfield signage behind the Wrigley Field bleachers, possibly including a Jumbotron in right field. Street closings on Sheffield and Waveland every game day to make way for money-making street fairs.

Sponsored “gateway” archways that welcome people to “Wrigleyville: Home of the Cubs” from various directions. More concerts and football games at Wrigley along with a stadium club, restaurant and several thousand premium-priced seats.

Determined to renovate 98-year-old Wrigley without overburdening taxpayers, sources said Mayor Rahm Emanuel is pushing a plan to relax the ballpark’s landmark status and allow the Cubs to wring as much as $150 million in advertising and sponsorship revenues out of the stadium and surrounding streets.

That all sounds fantastic. Of course there are going to be meatballs that oppose things like a Jumbotron, but to me it doesn't make sense that you show have a less enjoyable game experience because we want Wrigley to feel the same as 70 years ago. You know what else they had 70 years ago? Radio as a primary form of entertainment. I don't see people clamporing for their favorite shows to be broadcast on the radio because that's how they were enjoyed in the 1940's

I don't see a JumboTron adding much of anything in terms of enjoyability (in fact, it could reduce it if they do stupid stuff between innings, which they almost certainly will)....but what it will add is revenue, which should add to wins (so I guess it does indirectly make it more enjoyable) so I'm all for it.

I honestly couldn't care less if they plaster everything with ads. It's the norm. I love the ballpark and love seeing games there, but it doesn't need to be some pristine bastion of baseball's yesteryear.

Baseball's yesteryear...when the walls would often be covered in ads.

Ex Girlfriend was bitching about a jumbotron going up and saying she was sick thinking of it, and she said true fans shouldn't stand for this.

I asked her who the Cubs 1st basemen this year is?

She looked at me like this...

Guess I'm not a true fan cause I wouldn't hate a jumbotron!

I think a jumbotron would be great. Just no dot races, please.

I guess there's a reason why she's your ex-girlfriend.

The timing of Ricketts buying the team, getting Theo in here, and Rahm Emmanuel becoming mayor (not necessarily in that order) really couldn't have fallen better for the Cubs.
