Just win more than 72.5 games please. And I got the division at 20:1 so according to BP I got some good value.

Not a bad bet but that 72.5 is scary, I can see them getting there but I also see them trading every asset that isn't nailed down also. There are just so many parts that don't seem to be part of the future, I think anyone except for Castro, Samardzija, Jackson and Rizzo could be dealt at anytime for prospects. It's even possible that someone knocks our socks off for some of them...especially castro.

Not happening. Castro and Rizzo aren't going anywhere. Theo is especially attached to Rizzo. I'd be surprised if Shark did either. Jackson (referring to Brett, not Edwin) won't be traded in all likely, but not because he's untouchable, just because his value is at an all time low. Anyone else on the team could be a potential trade piece if they can bring back value.

the only reason I mention castro is that baez looks for real and if someone sent us a great deal I'm sure they'd listen. Agreed on the others.

If "right deal" means historically comical overpay, than I concur. Otherwise, Castro is here. As he should be.

I sure as hell wouldn't need an historically comical overpay to part ways with Castro.

Alright, let's hear this.

Just a standard overpay will suffice for me.

Does it really matter?

I thought saying it would take a "historically comical" overpay was weird too. Any situation where we'd be getting more in value in return than we'd be giving up would obviously be worth it. I don't see why it has to be historically comical.

I can't talk specifics because I'm just not that well versed in the rest of the league anymore.

But it's not like I'm actively looking to deal the guy, I was more goofing on the wording of that other post.

Since I'm the one that used the term, I'll change it to I'm just not interested in trading our multiple time All Star, just turned 23 year old SS. And I doubt any team would come close to offering up what I'd be willing to deal him for. A prospect package would start with Profar(who the Rangers likely wouldn't do straight up) and include another 2-3 guys with him. The Cards could send us Taveras, Miller, and more. The O's could send us Bundy, Machado, and more.....None of these would ever happen.

I would not take a prospect package for Castro. Any prospect package, I mean. There are just 9 players that project to more WAR than Castro over the next 5 years. Those would be the only players I'd trade Castro for. And even then, I'd balk at the pitchers unless the other team added prospects to the deal.

Those players: Evan Longoria, Matt Kemp, Mike Trout, Clayton Kershaw, Troy Tulowitzki, Justin Verlander, Bryce Harper, Giancarlo Stanton and Andrew McCutchen.

Trades mostly happen when one team has an excess of that matches another team's lack and vice-versa.

Nobody is going to have an excess of things that are worth as much or more than Starlin Castro, and we're not going to have an excess of him (someone is moving to 2b or 3b if Baez pans out). It's really that simple.

Like you, I'd balk at the pitcher, but also Kemp and Tulo.

And Stanton

ETA: And probably McCutchen and Harper
