It's Maddoning
Joe seems to have pretty significantly mishandled the pitching staff with his hand-picked pitching coach (see Theo's comments about Morrow). If the Cubs don't make it deep into the postseason what are the chances that his contract is not renewed?

I’d be shocked if he’s gone. Only way he’s gone is if he retires, imo.

I would be shocked if Joe isn't backed, but I am expecting some turnover on the medical staff. Someone's gonna take the fall...

Because two years removed from a World Series championship we're so spoiled that being about to win a 3rd straight division championship, with a team that has dealt with a huge number of injuries, is insufficient.

I like being spoiled.

Yeah, being spoiled is awesome.
I definitely have some issues with how Joe uses the pen, but not nearly to the point I'd want him gone or anything. And if I did, it wouldn't matter anyway, because he's not going anywhere.
But yeah, I'd suspect our 4 star Yelp doctor and staff are history after the season.

Additional rule: you have to have one or the other. The only exception is you have an amazing board name. davell, I'm looking at you; put up a [expletive] avatar or something if your name only sounds like somebody tried say Dave as they lapsed into a coma.

I'm always down to FJM, but it ain't happening.
Though I am pretty confident he won't be with the Cubs after his contract is up next year.

Once PTR sees how much he's spent on wine this year, it's sure to be the end of Drinky Joe.

Not to mention you'd then have to go find someone who is actually better than Joe and I'm not sure that's a likely thing either.

Yeah, I’ve already said it but that’s my biggest concern/fear with letting Joe go. I think it’s far more likely we end up with someone worse than someone better. Or at best we find a guy who’s better than Joe at some thing(s) and worse than him at others and it’s just shifting value around. I’ll take Joe’s ability to run a clubhouse and be a CEO with managing the atmosphere, mental side, etc over a marathon season and his bullpen and lineup shortcomings over just about any other trade off.

Re: It's Maddoning
I could see the FO re-remaking the coaching staff this year with an eye toward finding someone to be an in-house Maddon replacement soon. Maddon could either step away after next year if things go really well (or really badly) in these playoffs and 2019, or sign a short-term deal after 2019.

Re-making this coaching staff one year after a nearly complete overhaul is going to be difficult. Are they just going to push out Brandon Hyde?

I could see them thinking about Hyde as a protege of sorts, with as much as he's bounced back and forth between the front office and the dugout.
I can also see the logic in thinking that every 5 years or so you need to get some fresh managerial perspective because you end up too calcified in your beliefs(good or bad) about the players you've been working with for years. That's especially true of the Cubs who have had a really consistent set of position players.
Ultimately though there's no way they're going to get rid of Joe for performance reasons when he's winning so much(if they lose out the regular season, Maddon's still is averaging 95 wins/year), doubly so when there's such a built in excuse for this year's disappointment. There's gonna be a lot of suboptimal decisions when your closer needs to be handled with kid gloves and Edwards isn't exactly a workhorse either(plus Strop got hurt). Theo's quotes reminding people the bullpen has the best ERA in the game imply he thinks similarly. Maybe they try to get some more back-end firepower outside of bargain shopping to remove all doubt for next year?
