Sammy Sofa wrote:The people behind BCS and BB have always been cagey like that since they change or come up with so much of it as they go along as opposed to having some kind of mapped out plan; it would have been odd for him to say something, like, "the Gene scenes are just showing what he's been reduced to," or, "we're definitely going to see something big happen with Gene!"
I guess I really just don't care that much about Gene. Jimmy is fascinating to me because of the character and the world they've created around him. Gene is just...Gene. Like, if he gets tracked down by the cops, then he's just this loser with nobody who's been busted. If he's killed by someone from the drug world...who cares? What would that really be besides just checking off a box so people can say, "yup, now I know how and when Jimmy McGill bites it."
Pretty much the only way I want to see the Gene stuff expanded is if Kim is involved.
Yeah, I have such a love hate relationship with seeing a Gene story. On one hand I am dying to hear any bit of info/story coming out of the post-Breaking Bad years but on the other hand any major revelations or continuation of the story even if its just what happened to Saul would probably ruin the perfect Breaking Bad ending.
I don't even know if seeing Kim would be much of a payoff. Gene is arrested and Kim (who I believe the story established is from Nebraska) shows up randomly as the prosecuting attorney, and then the Curb Your Enthusiasm theme plays as the show fades out.

Doesn’t every season start with a Gene scene and that is all we see of him for the season?

Is that right? I though for sure there'd been more sprinkled in.

I think that's accurate.

All of BCS and BB are delusions in the mind of Gene. Pull a St Elsewhere.

Finally watched the season finale. That scene of Werner getting whacked was gorgeously shot.
I was hoping for some sort of overlap w/ Gus & HHM, with Howard maybe being on retainer for Gus' legitimate business, or something. Admittedly, I'm constantly looking for character pieces fitting together even when it just doesn't have to be so tidy.

The look of hurt on Kim’s face when Jimmy reveals he was putting on the act is heartbreaking.
He has certainly lost a lot of his charm this season.

well we knew he would eventually be a sleazy type of lawyer that does shady things with criminals so it's not like nobody saw it coming

I'm gonna go there and say that i think BCS is at least AS good but likely better than BB. It's complexity, character development, and hauntingly depressing degradation of character is outstandingly done. i think I'd watch Gilligan create a show a about watching paint dry,.

I don't know if it's better, but I definitely enjoy watching BCS more than BB.

Re: Better Call Saul (Again)
I didn't even realize I was watching the finale. I looked for new episodes these past two weeks when it finally dawned on me that "S'all good, man" was the perfect season ender line.
Absolutely love BCS, but to me it will never top Breaking Bad. The writing seems better and more tedious for BCS. But I liked the flow of Breaking Bad a lot better. With Breaking Bad, you got new death totals on each new episode, so it was very action packed. BCS is more about understanding the psyche of Jimmy and all of the pitfalls that create his new persona. So not nearly as action packed.

another long break

Do you have a status update on season five of Better Call Saul? When is it coming back?
We said on our most recent earnings call that the series would come back for season five next year.
Oh, I missed that. So Better Call Saul, not until 2020. That’s something else which has become increasingly common these days — big shows taking longer breaks between seasons. But if it’s what the creator needs and wants …
Yes. It’s driven by talent needs, which we would not override if it would result in a worse show.

Probably has more to do with it being in these network's best interests to spread out their best shows as much as possible.

Weird thing is that they were back on set yesterday for Day 1 of filming per Rhea Seehorn's IG account.
