Now, this is just my thinking, I didnt take this from somebody with actual knowledge. But, could the next Democrat President then use that as a precedent to declare our healthcare industry a national emergency, and secure funding for a socialized healthcare system without requiring a supermajority in congress? IF SO, please proceed, Mr. President.

I am a sorta hesistant to fight as dirty as Republicans politically, and normalizing the declaration of National Emergencies for political reasons is a slippery slope. It could really lessen the reaction and sense of urgency when an actual emergency happens. Having lived through a half assed response to a real national emergency, that scares the horsefeathers out of me.

A couple point..

1. Not really. When declaring a national emergency, the administration can't simply spend money from nowhere. The President can take money that is allocated to other military projects. If I remember, there's something like 20B or 30B in projects out there he can raid. Things like some of the fighter jet retrofits, military hospital upgrades, etc...Socializing healthcare would cost a lot more, and the impact on important military programs would be significant.

2. It's a horsefeathers move, and even if I agreed with the cause, I wouldn't want a president to utilize it. The last thing we need is for the executive branch to continue grabbing more and more power from the legislative branch.

CNN now running profile pieces on workers struggling with the government shutdown. Sad shots of dad with kids, not knowing if he can afford to pay his mortgage, etc.

Ironic (or not). If Clinton would’ve won there would probably be a supermajority in the Senate and a larger majority in the house for Republicans. The GOP is disintegrating in front of our eyes.

Is it not too far fetched to think that should Trump get the wall funding, he's found a way to funnel some of the money into his holdings?

You bet, just think of how many more stories we'll see of poor white men staring out of windows feeling they'll been disenfranchised and America has lost touch with them.

I know close to zilch about her politics, but she seems sharp as a tack. I especially liked her grilling of Kavanaugh during the confirmation.

I think whomever consolidates the black vote between her and Booker will easily become the favorite to win. If they both stay in deep into the primaries, they eat each other's lunch.
