Days after Christmas, Leon Haughton flew back to the US from his birthplace in Jamaica with three jars of honey. He had no idea they would cost him his freedom for nearly three months.

The Maryland resident spent 82 days in jail after he was arrested December 29 and accused of bringing a controlled substance into the country. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers who searched Haughton's bag upon his arrival to Baltimore/Washington International Airport said the honey he was carrying tested positive for drugs.
"They said I was charged with methamphetamine, so I said, 'what is methamphetamine?'" Haughton told CNN affiliate WJLA.

Charging documents say the 46-year-old man told officers he had purchased the honey on the side of a road in Jamaica, but officers suspected it was liquid meth.
Each of the three bottles tested positive for methamphetamine in a field test, according to a probable cause statement. Haughton was taken to a county jail to face multiple charges including importing a controlled substance into the state and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.

He stayed there until March when the charges against him were dropped after a second test in a Georgia lab found no signs of drugs.

Well now I understand the real reason my doc told me i cant give my son honey until he's 1 (12 months being a approriate age to experimemt with recreational drugs).

He stayed there until March when the charges against him were dropped after a second test in a Georgia lab found no signs of drugs.

Knew this was coming.

I'm sure the reluctance is purely based on respect for the family (after numerous media requests).

That horrible story of the Rays' prospects' family being killed was made even worse, IMO, but the heavily armed and armored police's ridiculous attempts to arrest the suspect...who was running around naked and even tried to strangle someone else:

https://deadspin.com/family-of-rays-pro ... 1837660624

There's basically zero chance if this guy wasn't white he wouldn't have been ended up dead. But instead the cops spend a ton of time playing keepaway before finally taking him into custody alive and largely unharmed. WEIRD.

What's the motivation here? Not debating guilt...sounds like there's no doubt he did it...I just don't understand why he'd wanna horsefeathers over innocent people like that.

what’s the deal with that story...is there reason to doubt her claim that she thought she was in her apartment?

I’m going to weigh in at my own peril, especially since I’ve paid minimal attention to this, but why would she direct her racist aggression against the guy who lives one floor beneath her? Aren’t there plenty of opportunities as a city cop to shoot an innocent black person? This whole thing does not add up.

Yes, entering another persons home and killing them does not add up. This is true.

The guy had a bright floor mat outside of his door; she had nothing along those lines. I have actually gotten off on the wrong floor of my building and briefly thought I was at the right door, and not seeing my mat, or no mat at all, or a different mat immediately let me know what I had done.

And even if you don't notice that, you walk in and think, what, people broke in and move in completely different furniture? Put different things on the walls? Moved in their clothes?

There's also zero evidence that she tried to aid or assist him like she claimed in any way outside of calling 911. There was no blood on her or her clothes, and the medical assistance kit she had with her gear hadn't been used at all. All of her freaking out was over herself and what was going to happen to her, and didn't do horsefeathers to try and help the man she had just shot in his own home.

It was almost certainly technically an accident, but it's an accident from a position of complete and totally dangerous negligence, arrogance and racism. This is someone who should have never been made a horsefeathering cop or had a horsefeathering gun, and this is someone whose immediate reaction when she walks into an open apartment is, "this must be my place; I am going to shoot dead the black man inside of it" at literally the first sight of him. It very obviously "adds up." It's manslaughter at the VERY least, and rightfully was found by the jury to be murder.

Yeah, that's a horsefeathering terrible gross take. It's akin to not believing a woman was raped because she's not attractive.
