Andricson Salvador opened today's pitching lineup with 4 IP and 8 Ks (0 BBs, 4 H, 2 Rs). He signed with the Cubs on June 11th out of the DR , made his pro debut 8 days later, and has steadily gotten better over his first 6 pro PAs. He's easily the most notable DSL Cubs arm this year though on checking Yovanny Cabrera (in a Carlos Ocampo kind of way) and Kelvin Feliz aren't completely crapping the bed. The LH has 19 Ks in 15 IP including 15 in his last 9 (3 games)

Wait, the Cubs are playing the Cubs in the AZL?

Has that happened before? Not in my memory...

Carrera was due a little bit, fantastic run prevention for that stretch but a clunker was inevitable. I'm glad he kept the ball in the park, picked up 3 Ks too...Season at 79.2 / still those 9 HRs/ 69 Ks / 74 Hs / 21 BBs / 3.16 ERA including 69 / 5 / 54 / 63 / 15 / 2.99 since giving up 4 HRs in his first 10 IP

And Jensen catches the yips in his pro debut. 3 walks. An rbi single allowed. Zero Ks. About as bad as you could draw up.

Luis Vazquez starting to heat up? He's hit .300/.386/.475 with a 16% K rate over his last 44 PAs (10 games and tonight's first PA), is 19 all season and a talented defensive SS

------

Jo Adell is blowing up the Smokies' pitchers with two HRs in his 3/4 night so far

------

Fun fact: Carlos Ocampo has faced 350 batters in pro games after tonight and has allowed 11 (3%) XBHs including 1 HR. At 21 and likely to be in the NWL next year, he won't be so different from the shuffle of mid-late college arms that will litter the roster around a half decent lineup of prospect candidates for the level (Martinez, Pagan, Huma, Verdugo, Pertuz, hopefully Carlos Morfa, Soto again, H. Perez)

Yeah, that pitching lineup went nowhere. The star SP performance came from to Andricson Salvador. I like how this guy and/or his people gets him out there, video of today's start:

I'd like to see more DSL kids doing more self promoting. That's part of the gig too! This guy looks like he has a good arm and in general liking this pipeline of lefties the Cubs have had coming through the DSL. Luis Rodriguez has transitioned well enough in the AZL so far (19.1 IP, 12 Ks in 4 GS), Didier Vargas hit a wall this year but was alright before, Misael Garcia came over at 18 but has gotten rocked, and then there's OGs Carrera and Marquez from 2016...even Jose Paulino made noise for a minute while the pitching really did suck
